Aviation Policing

Nottinghamshire Police is committed to helping all other forces in the UK to stop criminals using aircraft to commit crime.

While the county itself has no major international airports, we still have a duty to enforce the laws that govern entry to Britain, such as the Terrorism Act.

We also police the skies over Nottinghamshire, monitoring aviation activity that may suggest the county’s airspace is being used by criminals, or that aircraft used in crime are landing in or taking off from the county.

Aviation policing is also about policing from the air. The Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire forces jointly operate the North Midlands Police Helicopter, which is essential in aiding ground searches over a large geographical area, whether that be for criminals or people reported missing from home.
