Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender IAG (LGBT)

The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Independent Advisory Group meets every three months, or more frequently if a particular incident or issues arises that is of interest to the group.

The group is made up of individual members of the community and representatives of local groups and organisations that support the LGBT community, including:

Members participate in the group as individuals and representatives of organisations that support the LGBT community.  They reflect the views of their communities, but it is recognised that their views may not represent all views of the LGBT community.

Ours aims

  • Inform the delivery of a policing service, which meets the needs of the LGBT community across Nottinghamshire.
  • Critically appraise police actions and operations at a strategic level, including advising on proposed police actions and operations, particularly dvising on the community impact.
  • Build active community consent, trust, confidence and participation of the LGBT community in policing.
  • Raise the concerns of the LGBT community on operational issues with the police.

Our achievements

The group has contributed to a number of policing initiatives and practices in support of its aims, including:

  • Getting involved in, and being seen to be involved in, community activities such as the annual Nottingham Pride festival.
  • Seeking LGBT community members for involvement in police training.
  • Providing regular analysis of reported homophobic crimes.
  • Communicating to the LGBT community where there are local situations that might put them at risk.
  • Promoting liaison with City Division police and providing a forum for local community safety issues to be explored.
