Our people

Nottinghamshire Police is made up of around 2,250 uniformed and plain clothed police officers, 1,500 police staff, 275 Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) and more than 450 Special Constables and other volunteers.

Statistics show our officers are among the most industrious in the country. Each day we receive around 2,400 calls from the public and we deal with around 140,000 crimes a year – that’s more offences per officer than any other police force in England and Wales. We also have one of the highest arrest rates per officer in the country.

Our officers perform the full range of duties expected of a modern police force. In the morning they might be responding to a 999 call, in the afternoon they might be meeting a class of schoolchildren or a community group to talk about police work or crime prevention. And that’s before the night shift goes on duty.

Our police staff provide support for front-line policing operations and other areas of our business. Like every large organisation or business, we employ specialists to help manage our finances, IT systems, human resources, buildings and other corporate services.

And completing the team are our four-legged colleagues in the dogs and mounted sections. We have 26 general purpose dogs, six of which are trained to provide support to firearms officers, and a further ten specialist dogs trained in searching for explosives, drugs and weapons. We also have eight horses which can be deployed for general patrols or to support specific operations, including the control of crowds at major events.
