Craig leads and manages the East Midland Legal Services Unit. The Unit is a collaborative venture between Nottinghamshire Police and Derbyshire Constabulary and its focus is on providing high quality, professional legal advice and representation to both Forces.
 
Duties and Responsibilities
 
Legal advice and representation is provided across a wide spectrum of the law including: 
 
Corporate, proactive and policy advice, including advising on such issues to ensure compliance in relation to administrative law and the Human Rights Act, and dealing with judicial reviews of decisions.

Operational policing: antisocial behaviour orders, dispersal notices, closure orders, sexual offences prevention orders, violent offender orders, injunctions to prevent forced marriages, cash seizures under the Proceeds of Crime Act, liquor and public entertainment licensing, firearms legislation, public order policing advice on police powers under, for example, the Police and Criminal Evidence Act, and the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act, advice in relation to terrorism, civil contingencies and the police use of firearms.

Offering advice and legal support to the Police Authority.

Civil litigation: claims against forces for wrongful arrest, false imprisonment, misfeasance, malicious prosecution, accidents at work, occupational stress and road accidents.

Representing the Force at inquests.

Data Protection, Freedom of Information requests, and the law relating to the disclosure of information in, for example, family proceedings, particularly those where child abuse is alleged, and disclosure to regulatory bodies such as the General Medical Council.

Employment law: providing advice as well as representation before tribunals in respect of claims for race, sex and disability discrimination and pay equality by police officers and police staff, together with unfair dismissal and other contractual claims in relation to the latter.

Police conduct: advice and representation in respect of police misconduct before force misconduct panels and appeals to police appeals tribunals.

Commercial law and conveyancing: providing advice in connection with a wide range of contractual issues arising from the procurement of goods and services, together with handling legal work concerning the sale, acquisition and leasing of police premises.

Police Regulations: advising on all aspects of the Regulations and the Police (Pensions) Regulations, assistance with medical appeals, forfeiture and applications to the Crown Court and responding to judicial review.
