Volvo sighting appeal in Lady Bay robbery investigation

Updated on 15th August 2012

Detectives investigating an armed robbery in the Lady Bay area of West Bridgford this morning want to speak to anyone who saw a silver Volvo car being abandoned near the scene.

Two men wearing dark clothing and face coverings entered Trent Boulevard post office shortly after 11am on Wednesday 15 August.

One of them produced what is believed to be a handgun and demanded money from the post master. A quantity of cash was handed over and the two men fled. The firearm was not discharged and no one was injured.

It is believed the offenders got into the car, drove along Lady Bay Road and in to Holme Road, where one of the men got out of the car and ran into a nearby nature reserve.

The car then continued along Holme Road and Adbolton Road before being dumped in Moore Close. The car has been recovered by police.

Officers want to speak to anyone who saw the car or any other suspicious activity in the Trent Boulevard area before the robbery, or who saw it being abandoned in Moore Close.

They also want to talk to anyone who may have seen a man in dark clothing and possibly carrying a bag, making his way on foot through the Trent Fields area shortly after 11am.

A cordon remains in place at the post office while a forensic examination is carried out.

Anyone who believes they have information which can help the police with their enquiries is asked to telephone 101 or call into West Bridgford police station and quote either incident numbers 275 or 276 of 15 August.

Alternatively, they can call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
