Burglar strikes as mother and baby sleep
Updated on 20th February 2012
Police are appealing for information about a burglary at a house in Kirkby-in-Ashfield, which happened as a mother and baby slept.
The woman was asleep at her home in Wollaton Road on Wednesday (15 February 2012) when at about midnight she was woken by a loud bang.
She initially dismissed it as a dream, until she heard the child gate on the stairs outside her bedroom open.
The mother, concerned for her 17-month-old son, leapt out of bed and turned on the light. She then heard someone running down the stairs, followed by the front door banging.
The intruder stole a purse and bag, containing cash, bank cards and a white gold ring, featuring a square diamond and teardrop-shaped shoulder diamonds.
Detective Constable David Sadler said: “We believe the intruder entered through the front door.
“Thankfully, the child slept through the incident. The mother however, although uninjured, was understandably very frightened and is now feeling very uneasy in her own home.”
Anyone with any information about the person responsible for the break-in or the missing ring is asked to contact Nottinghamshire Police on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
