Mansfield distraction burglary warning
Updated on 5th January 2012
Detectives in Mansfield are urging residents to be wary of unexpected callers following a distraction burglary on Tuesday 3 January.
A man and a woman called at the home of an elderly householder in Chadburn Road at around 4pm and asked him if they could use his phone.
He agreed and let them into his house, but while they were there his wallet was stolen.
Detective Sergeant Phil Sims, of Mansfield CID, said: “This appears, unfortunately, to be another example of unscrupulous offenders targeting elderly or vulnerable local residents. In this instance, the victim is in his late 80s.
“We believe these offenders may have called at other homes in the area on Tuesday. We are keen to hear from anyone who may have had an unexpected call from a couple asking to use the phone or perhaps making another request with the intention of been given access to the house.
“Similarly, if anyone saw any activity they regarded as suspicious in Chadburn Road on Tuesday afternoon, we’d like to hear from you.”
Anyone with information should telephone Mansfield CID on 101, ext 805 3134.
Alternatively, they can call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
