Ollerton crash victim named

The 57-year-old woman involved in a collision in Ollerton yesterday (Wednesday 18 January 2012) has been named.

Gillian Smith, from Edwinstowe, died when her Ford Fiesta was in collision with a Ford Iveco articulated lorry near the Ollerton Island on the A6075.

The incident happened at about 9.10am.

Mrs Smith was taken to King’s Mill Hospital following the collision, but subsequently died of her injuries.

Her family has been informed and are currently being supported by police officers.
 
The 53-year-old male driver of the articulated lorry was uninjured.

The road was closed from the Ollerton roundabout to the former Thoresby colliery. It reopened at about 3.45pm.

Witnesses to the collision are being asked to contact the Crash Investigation Unit on 101 extension 800 2225 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

The female driver of the Fiesta was taken to King’s Mill Hospital, where she subsequently died from her injuries.

Police were called to the A6075, near the Ollerton Island, at 9.10am today (Wednesday 18 January 2012) following reports of a collision between a Ford Fiesta and a HGV.

The female driver of the Fiesta was taken to King’s Mill Hospital where her condition is described as critical.

The 53-year-old male driver of the HGV was uninjured.

The road has been closed from the Ollerton Island to the former Thoresby colliery while police conduct their enquiries.
