Warning to vehicle owners
Updated on 25th January 2012
Motorists are being urged to ensure their vehicles are left secure and that valuables are removed from view following a spate of thefts in the Gedling area.
There have been nine reports of items being stolen from cars and vans in the past two weeks.
They include an incident in Broom Road, Calverton, where a set of ladders left on a vehicle were snatched between midnight and 6am on Thursday 12 January 2012.
A roof-rack left on a van in Mansfield Road, Daybrook, was stolen on Friday 20 January 2012, and overnight between Sunday 22 January and Monday 23 January a drill was taken from an unsecure vehicle in Chestnut Grove, in Gedling.
During the same night two drills and a sat nav were taken from a van in Lee Road, Calverton, as the passenger door had not been shut properly.
Inspector Andy Knight, Gedling North Neighbourhood Policing Inspector, said: “We have experienced a number of thefts from insecure vehicles, particularly work vans, with power tools, ladders and even a roof-rack being stolen over the last week.
“While the neighbourhood policing team is determined to crack down on this recent spate, members of the public can assist us by ensuring that their vehicles aren’t left insecure as it is an open invitation to thieves.
“Valuable items should not be left in unattended vehicles, especially overnight. A few moments spent removing valuables might seem like an inconvenience at the time but it could prevent a person from becoming the victim of crime.
“If items need to be left in a vehicle, please don’t leave them in full view.”
Witnesses or anyone with information about vehicle crime or any other incidents should call Nottinghamshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
