Shop staff beaten by robbers

Updated on 26th January 2012

Robbers tied up and beat two shop assistants before fleeing with cash.

The incident took place at about 7.20pm on Tuesday (24 January 2012) at the Poundworld store at the Lady Bay Retail Park, Meadow Lane, Sneinton, as the two women were closing the shop.

Two men burst in through a rear door. They tied the women’s hands then assaulted them before demanding the key to the safe.

The offenders are then believed to have fled on foot, in the direction of Lady Bay Bridge, with a substantial amount of cash.

The women were left shocked and bruised by the attack, but did not require medical treatment.

The suspects have been described as two men aged in their early 20s. Both wore masks, gloves and dark blue jackets, and spoke with local accents. One was about 6ft tall and the other 5ft 8ins.

DS Kaz Smithson said: “The robbery took place just before the Notts County football game so there were lots of people in the area.

“While the crowds may have aided their escape at the time, we are hoping someone may have seen something or bumped into these men as they fled.”

Witnesses or anyone with any information about the robbery are asked to contact Nottinghamshire Police on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
