Appeal after van crashes with cyclist

Updated on 27th January 2012

A cyclist has been injured after being in collision with a van.

The van collided with the 23-year-old man just before midnight in Harlaxton Drive at the junction with Nottingham Road near to Borrowash.

The victim has been taken to hospital for treatment to non life-threatening injuries.

A number of police vehicles had been following the van from around 11.40pm on 26 January, prior to the collision, after it made off from officers who had thought the driver was acting suspiciously.

The driver of the van, 23, was subsequently arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing a roadside breath test and failing to stop for a police vehicle, shortly after the crash. He is also receiving medical treatment for a minor head injury.

He has since been bailed pending further enquiries.

An investigation is currently looking at the circumstances leading up to the collision and Nottingham Road is currently closed at the junction with Station Road in Long Eaton and the High Road in Toton.

The collision has been referred by the Force to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

If anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact Nottinghamshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
