Warning following Hucknall burglaries

Residents in Hucknall are being urged to ensure their homes and property is left secure following a series of break-ins.

Four properties were targeted by thieves on Tuesday 6 November with items including bicycles, jewellery and cash being taken.

Offenders scaled a fence in Roseberry Gardens before forcing open patio doors to a house and stealing a television and money.

It happened just after 1pm and three men are believed to have used a stolen car from Kimberley to get to the address. The vehicle was left abandoned on the driveway of the property.

Police are linking the break-in to a burglary which happened in Byron Street just before 7pm. Suspects forced their way in through a back door and stole a TV.

Two men, aged 24 and 18, have been arrested in connection with the incidents and remain in custody where they are being questioned by detectives.

A sneak-in thief also stole a handbag from a property in Common Lane just before 9pm and two bikes were taken from a shed in Shaw Crescent at about 9.15pm.

DI Richard Monk said: “Thieves are opportunists and won’t think twice about using the cover of darkness to commit their crimes or capitalising on an unlocked door or insecure shed.

“There are some simple steps that people can take to protect themselves and their property and make it harder for offenders to strike.

“When going out, make it look like you are at home. Use inexpensive timer switches to make lights come on or leave a radio playing.

“Drawing the curtains or closing blinds can help make a difference along with ensuring that valuables and keys are not left visible, even if you are at home.

“Where possible invest in security lights, set a burglar alarm and make sure doors are locked – it only takes a matter of seconds and will prevent someone uninvited from walking in.

“If you see anyone acting suspiciously in your area or around a neighbours home, do not hesitate to call police.”
