Community Safety
Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnerships (CDRPs), which are also known as Community Safety Partnerships, work to reduce crime, disorder and problem drug misuse in each local authority area of the country.
CDRPs bring together the police, local authorities, fire service and NHS primary care trusts in a partnership with other public, private and community organisations to take local action to reduce crime and the fear of crime.
They can help to address underlying social and environmental problems that contribute to crime and anti-social behaviour by, for example, improving street lighting to make people feel safer at night or providing leisure activities to engage young people and encourage them to feel part of the community.
CDRPs are required to carry out an audit of crime and disorder and drug misuse problems in their area and develop strategies that deal effectively with them.
Each of the eight local authority areas in Nottinghamshire is served by a CDRP. In view of the close links between drugs and crime, the CDRPs work closely with the Nottinghamshire Drug and Alcohol Action Team (DAAT). In the unitary City of Nottingham, the CDRP and the DAAT form a single partnership called the Nottingham Crime and Drugs Partnership.
There is also a county-wide Community Safety Board made up of representatives of the police and Nottinghamshire’s CDRPs.
