Racist incidents
Racist harassment is a crime. It is any incident perceived to be racist by the victim of the offence or any other person.
Racist harassment is any offensive conduct or behaviour motivated by prejudice against a person because of their skin colour, nationality, ethnic origin or cultural background.
Some forms of harassment, such as abuse, insults and threats are very obvious. Others, such as damage to property or malicious complaints, may be less obvious.
Nottinghamshire Police and Nottingham and District Racial Equality Council encourage the reporting of all racist harassment to the police. You can report a racist incident by telephone, in person or in writing to your local police station.
In an emergency always ring 999. You can also telephone the 24 hour Stop Hate line on 0800 138 1625 or visit www.stophateuk.org
You can also seek help and advice from other organisations, including your local council, a solicitor, Nottingham and District Racial Equality Council on 0115 958 6515 or Victim Support in Nottinghamshire on 0845 450 3899.
