7. Information classes
Classes of information
Introduction
In providing this information Nottinghamshire Police is following the legally approved ACPO model publication scheme.
The Freedom of Information Act requires a Publication Scheme to specify the classes of information the public authority already publishes or intends to publish. Our intention is to publish as much information as possible on subjects where there is known to be public interest. However, exemptions under the Freedom of Information Act may prevent some information from being released.
Nottinghamshire Police publishes, or intends to publish information under the Classes listed below.

Executive decision meetings
Class Definition:
In recognition of the need to have regard to the public interest in allowing access to public information held, and in the publication for reasons for decisions made, the 'open' session of ratified minutes of formal Force level decision-making meetings are published. They contain discussion of key strategic issues under consideration and the primary decisions relating to resource and budgetary matters. The 'closed' session of the minutes are not available under this Publication Scheme. They contain information of a confidential and sensitive nature (eg personnel, security matters and commercial interests).

Our Policies
Class Definition:
These are current statements of principle providing guidance and direction to staff in respect of a specific issue or piece of legislation. Our policies establish the expected organisational behaviour in line with organisational objectives leading to a consistent approach to decision making. Our policies set out broad expectations and are the framework from which procedure flows.
It should be noted that some of the material in this Class contains exempt information, which in the public interest, should not be published. Where this occurs the material will clearly show where information has been withheld and explain what exemption has been applied and why. Typically, information may be withheld if its release would compromise the health and safety of staff, investigations and proceedings and law enforcement more generally.
Many of our policies are available in the Library section of this website.

Information concerning police investigations
Police investigations are conducted with due regard to the confidentiality and privacy of victims, witnesses and suspects. Such investigations may also frequently involve the use of policing tactics or techniques that, if widely known, would hinder the ability of the police service to prevent and detect crime. It is further recognised that the release of information concerning current investigations may compromise any subsequent court proceedings.
For these reasons the police service will, in most cases, seek to apply an exemption to prevent the release of information concerning investigations when requested under the Freedom of Information Act 2000. Whilst adopting this general position, there is full recognition that in some cases there will be significant and compelling issues of public interest that require the disclosure of information. However, to override issues of personal privacy and possible harm to individuals involved in the investigation, this public interest must be significantly more than mere curiosity or interest in a particular investigation.
In order to ensure that these public interest issues are fully considered, all applications for information concerning investigations will be considered on a case-by-case basis in accordance with the requirements of the Act.
Significant public interest category
Definition:
In addition to the above classes of information, we want to provide you with information of incidents that we believe have significant public interest. That is why we have created this category of information which falls outside the approved classes of information. Information provided in this category will be changed or updated as necessary by Nottinghamshire Police.
