Positive Action Recruitment Events:
Nottinghamshire Police Positive Action initiatives are designed to encourage people from certain groups who are under-represented in the workplace, to apply for jobs and promotion opportunities.
Positive Action aims to dispel myths and show employees how Nottinghamshire Police support and welcome applications from people from underrepresented groups.
The key aim is to build greater understanding of, and appreciation for, the many different issues relating to diversity in relation to recruitment as well as promoting the benefits associated with working together in partnership.
A copy of the Positive Action policy is available from the Library.
Whom does it apply to?
Positive Action initiatives are concerned predominantly with the issues of gender, race and disability, but also religion, sexual orientation and age. Under-represented groups may therefore include, for example, women, Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) people and disabled people.
Positive Action is not a legal requirement but provisions have been made under the Sex Discrimination Act 1975, the Race Relations Act 1976, Disability Discrimination Act 1995, Religion and Belief Regulations 2003, Sexual Orientation Regulations 2003 and Age and Employment Equality (Age) Regulations 2006.
What does Nottinghamshire Police do?
Positive Action Events:
Recruitment and information events are held within sections of
the community that are under-represented within Nottinghamshire Police. The events are all held at community centres, volunteer groups and sports venues.
Nottinghamshire Police also regularly support the community by means of liasing with underrepresented groups and supporting recruitment events in order to promote Positive Action within the community.
Positive Action Traineeship Scheme
This scheme has been running within Nottinghamshire Police for 11 years and over 50 trainees have benefited from the scheme so far. The aim is to allow successful applicants the opportunity to undertake real work for a fixed term period of 12 months. During this time trainees are exposed to the work environment and thereby learn the skills required to apply themselves for more permanent posts within or outside the organisation.
Job Preparation Courses and Recruitment Information Sessions
These course are designed to help participants develop some of the skills that will better prepare them to apply to the police service and partner agencies.
