Community Engagement (IPLDP)
Help shape the future of policing in Nottinghamshire
Do you run or are you part of a community organisation in Nottinghamshire? If the answer is yes, then you could play a vital part in shaping the future of policing in the county.
The way newly recruited police officers are trained is changing and we need your help to develop the next generation of officers.
We are asking community organisations to provide work placement opportunities to provide our student officers with meaningful experience of working within the communities they will serve.
From September the Initial Police Learning and Development Programme (IPLDP) will replace the traditional 22-week residential probationer-training programme.
The new programme is citizen focused and has been created to ensure officers fulfill the requirements of modern day policing.
A key aim of the IPLDP is to ensure all newly recruited police officers have a good understanding of residents’ needs and ensure they have the confidence needed to engage with the county’s various communities.
To achieve this, and in order to complete their basic training, student officers are required to complete two community-based work placements – the first for five days and the second for four. These placements will provide new officers with valuable experience of community work at an early stage of their policing career.
If you think your organisation could provide a placement opportunity for our student officers then please contact us.
In particular we would like to hear from health/drug support teams, refugee support groups, youth inclusion projects, homeless shelters or any Nottinghamshire-based organisation with links to criminal justice.
While on work placements student officers will be set objectives they must complete. These will be drawn up in partnership with your organisation to ensure the experience benefits everyone involved.
You will only be required to complete only a minimal amount of paperwork and a Community Engagement Coordinator will be on hand to provide any extra assistance, should it be required.
The frequency of the placements is up to you and only one student officer would be with you at any time.
To take part or for more information contact PC Richard Martin, Community Engagement Coordinator, on 0115 9670999 Ext 4887 or email [email protected].
