Bridge Beat is made up of the Yorke Drive Estate, the Winthorpe Road Estate and the surrounding streets around the Sleaford Road area in Newark. Bridge beat also covers the Brunel Drive/Northern Road Industrial Estate.

Neighbourhood Priorities

Through consultation with the members of the public in this neighbourhood we regularly set out a number of priorities to be tackled.

  • Anti social behaviour Show details
At the Local action group meeting on the 26th November 2009 the chairs of the Safer Neighbourhood groups agreed that Anti social behaviour would be the 1st priority for the Newark Neighbourhood.

    Yorke Drive and Meering Avenue:
These two streets have been experiencing anti social behaviour with groups of youths and adults consuming alcohol in the streets, creating a noise nuisance and causing criminal damage. Particularly in the evenings seeing a significant rise on Friday and Saturday evenings.

Ongoing anti social behaviour has been identified on the Magnus and Devon estate, specifically Cherry Holt, Churchill Drive, Jersey Street and Beech Avenue from local youths playing football, swearing, drinking and littering in the alleyways between streets. This is also believed to be leading to more criminal damages in the area caused by local youths hanging around on the streets in the dark evenings.
This has been occurring largely in the evenings and weekends.
This is also leading to more criminal damages in the area caused by local youths hanging around on the streets in the dark evenings.

    Our Response
There is also a Designated Public Place order on Yorke Drive, which makes it illegal to drink alcohol on the streets. Any person caught drinking on the street will have their alcohol disposed of and can be fined.

We are encouraging the public to continue to ring in these complaints and highlight any individuals which can be identified. Those who are identified or caught in the act will be subject to parental visits, acceptable behaviour contracts and some leading up to antisocial behaviour order warnings or antisocial behaviour order's being put in place.

The Neighbourhood Policing team and the antisocial behaviour team from Newark and Sherwood District Council have completed surveys with residents to identify exactly when residents are being affected and what issues are affecting them so together we can work to resolve these problems.

We are working alongside housing officers from Newark and Sherwood Homes and Nottingham Community Housing Association to enforce these measures and deal with issues relating to tenants.

All incidents relating to motorbikes in the area are emailed directly to the off-road team so that they are aware of all problems as they occur. Further posters have been distributed around the area regarding the use of motorbikes and also warning posters have been put up to say that the off-road team are operating in this area. Further visits to this area by the off-road team are ongoing.

The Council has been approached to apply for a Designated Public Place Order for the Newark Town Centre to reduce Street drinking in the area.

    20th May 2010

Incidents of anti-social behaviour in the area remain low.
Reported ASB on Bridge ward continues to be low with a new CCTV camera being installed in the area shortly.
A Designated Public Place Order was discussed at the recent SNG on 10/05/10. Local Councillors have been approached agree with it in principal. The local Beat team will make a presentation to the Town Council to explain the reasons for the order, how it works and the benefits to gain further support.
We are waiting for the results of the environmental scan for the St. Marys Gardens area. Once received a formal action plan to improve the area and decrease anti-social behaviour will be completed. Officers continue to patrol the area, people have recently been dealt with for criminal damage in the area.
A project to reduce the nuisance from mini-motos and off road bikes is being put together. The intention being to educate people of the nuisance caused and dangers of riding without the correct equipment and training. Any persons caught offending will have their motorcycles seized and be prosecuted.

    24th April 2010

Tackling Anti-social behaviour continues to be a priority. The Despersal order and DPPO continues to work well on Bridge ward and reported ASB is low.
We are currently seeking a DPPO for the Town Centre to combat disorder in the Town centre and parks. This will be progressed at the next SNG on 10.05.10 which is at the Town Hall at 3.30pm. Everybody is welcome to attend.
ASB around theSt. Marys Gardens are of Hawtonville is currently being looked at. We have completed an Environmental scan of the area and are waiting for the results so an action plan can be put together.
We are putting together an operation to tackle off road motor cycles and mini-motos. This involves the use of our off road motor cycle team, seizing the motor cycles and prosecuting offenders. As well as being a nuisance to residents it is dangerous for the riders and other road users as these vehicles are usually ridden by under age inexperienced people.
