Bridge ,Yorke Drive and Winthorpe Road
Bridge Beat lies towards the north of Newark and appears a popular place to live, due to its amenities and the close proximity to the town centre. The Bridge Beat area stretches from the A46 Newark by-pass to the border of Newark Town Centre and includes the Northgate Railway Station.
The main road running through the area is Lincoln Road bordered on one side by the Winthorpe estate and on the other by the Yorke Drive estate. Both estates offer a mix of Council, private rented and owner occupied properties and there are a number of new properties owned by Leicester Housing Association on Yorke Drive. The third residential area of this beat covers several streets off Sleaford Road, which are mainly privately owned terraced properties. The area is also home to a large industrial site which offers a fair percentage of the town’s employment. The main employers on this estate offer jobs in the engineering, food, leisure, manufacturing and antique markets.
Each residential estate is served by local convenience stores. There are two fast food takeaways and a Travel Lodge hotel at the A46 end of Lincoln Road. Bishop Alexander Primary School on Wolsey Road is the only school in the Beat area. There are three community centres, Bridge Community Centre on Lincoln Road and Beaumont Walk Community Centre, off Yorke Drive and Winthorpe Road Community Centre off Quibells Lane. Newark & Sherwood District Council has a warden controlled housing complex for the elderly, Millennium Court on Yorke Drive and a temporary housing complex for the homeless, Seven Hills on Quibell Lane.
Under the Policing Pledge, this is an urban beat and has a 15 minute emergency response time. For an explanation of what this means click here.

Beat Priorities
Through consultation with the members of the public in this beat we regularly set out a number of priorities to be tackled.
- Anti Social Behaviour at MacDonalds, KFC and Premier Inn Show details
Anti Social Behaviour on Lincoln Road, around the MacDonald’s area in Newark has been on the increase in recent months. The Local Beat Team are looking to problem solve this issue along with Newark and Sherwood District Council and the businesses in the area.
Complaints have been made that groups of people are congregating in the car parks in vehicles and causing a general nuisance to those that live nearby and also disturbing guests at the Premier Inn Hotel. Vehicles are playing loud music, revving engines and often driving the vehicles in a reckless manner.
Our Response
12/01/2012
The Local Beat team along with Newark and Sherwood District Council have held a meeting with some of the businesses in the problem area. A strategy has been put in place between the Premier Inn and MacDonald’s on how to raise a complaint, to allow for each business involved to try to act on any nuisance being caused at the time. Details of vehicles that are deemed to be causing a nuisance are to be recorded and past on to the beat team to take positive action.
Warning letters will be personally issued to those causing problems and if necessary Section 59 warnings will also be issued. If offenders persist to cause problems or cause harassment alarm and distress in their vehicles after being warned vehicles may be seized.
Officers will conduct regular patrols at the relevant times.
