  • Motorcycle nuisance   Show details
    Problems on Yorke Drive, Winthorpe Road Estate and Welbeck Avenue area.

    Our Response
    Patrols to be made by Safer Neighbourhood Team in hotspot areas in hotspot and warning notices to be issued as appropriate. Bikes will be seized whan and where possible and prosecutions will be made against offenders. Off road specialist team to patrol hotspot area.

    Our Solution
    We have seized numerous bikes and the off road team have been to Newark on a few occasions with positive results.

    This however is an ongoing issue and will continue to be monitored by the safer neighbourhood team.
  • Parking issues   Show details
    There are problems with parking on Lawrence Street and surrounding streets. No parking restrictions have led to problems for residents.

    Our Response
    Issues to be raised with highways department who will assess parking in the area. Local councillor is to look in to possible funding for residents parking

    Our Solution
    No further complaints from any residents. Local councillor will continue to monitor
  • Speed Limit on Lincoln Road   Show details
    Current Speed limit is currently 40 MPH. This is to be reduced to 30 MPH due to numbers of children crossing the road at school times etc.

    Our Response
    The Highways Agency have confirmed that the Speed Limit will be reduced to 30MPH after a public consultation was held.
    Enquiries also to be made regarding community Speed Watch for he area.

    Our Solution
    It has been confirmed that the speed limit will be reduced. Local councillor will continue to monitor its progress and feed back to the Safer Neighbourhood group.
  • Anti Social Behaviour on Yorke drive, Meering Avenue and Emmendingen Avenue   Show details
    Anti-social behaviour has been raised as a priority. This was due to reports of groups of youths causing anti social behaviour on Bridge Beat, both on Yorke Drive and Meering Avenue.
    The reports had come through via local councillors, chairs of the local Tenants and Residents Associations and through to the local neighbourhood policing team themselves.
    This Priority has been reviewed at the most recent SNG meeting and decided to be continued.

    Update 23/05/2011
    The last meeting was held on the 4th May. Anti Social Behaviour still remains at a low on both the Yorke Drive Estate and Winthorpe Road Estate, along with no further reports of ASB from the Emmendingen Avenue area.

    At the last meeting held on the 2nd March it was fed back in to the group that anti social behaviour is still at a low on Yorke Drive and Emmendingen Avenue has also been quiet with no problems being reported.
    We received a few complaints regarding Meering Avenue and action will be taken against those responsible.

    From the last meeting held in January it has been reported that ASB remains low on the Bridge Beat. There have been no further issues on Emmendingen Avenue and a CCTV camera has been installed for a period of time at the end of the road.

    Anti Social Behaviour on Yorke Drive and Meering Avenue remains low however there has been a serious incident on Emmendingen Avenue that resulted in 13 people being arrested. The Anti Social Behaviour includes Noise, Street Drinking and general nuisance behaviour. Extra patrols will be done in the area, along with surgeries to be done in the area to liaise with the community about problems.

    It has been reported now for several months that Anti Social Behaviour has been low on Bridge Beat. The group would now like to focus more closely on Street Drinking on Yorke Drive
  • Rowdy Nuisance behaviour - park at Lawrence Street   Show details
    Youths gathering on the park at Lawrence Street.

    Our Response
    Invitation to the local residents of surrounding streets of the park to attend the Bridge Safer Neighbourhoods Group meeting to update the beat team and pass on any further problems to either the police or council. Application for CCTV camera to be placed on the park. High- visibility patrols at end of school times and evenings by Beat Manager 164 and PCSOs 7455 and 8297.

    There are issues with large groups of youths causing trouble on Meering Avenue. There is also problems with graffiti in the same area.

    Our Response
    Increased high visibilty patrols in the area, visits to be made to the relevant parents, get other agencies involved such as the anti-social behaviour team and housing.

  • Nuisance motorcycles   Show details
    Local young residents on beat riding off road motorbikes illegally in the area.

    Several youths have been riding motorbikes and off road bikes around without helmets and no insurance on the vehicles this is causing nuisance to the local residents.

    Our Response
    Seize the vehicles if seen by Police Officers or PCSOs under Operation Rustproof. Viewing CCTV of any reported incidents of the illegal riders on the motorbikes in order to issue Section 59sRegular Patrols in the area by Beat Manager 164 and PCSOs 8297 and 7455.

    Problems with the alleyways being used as dumping grounds and also providing getaways for offenders of crime

    Our Response
    A separate meeting is to be arranged to discuss this problem further. Local council to be notified when items have been dumped to arrange quick removal. Discussions to be held regarding whether the alleyways should be closed off or locked for residents use only

    Nuisance caused by Off Road Motorbikes and Mini Moto's. Being used on both roads and common land.

    Our Response
    Patrols in the hotspot areas. Offenders to be identified and issued with Section 59 Warnings if first offence.
    Bikes to be seized and offenders prosecuted where appropriate.
    Two bikes have been seized this week and several warnings issued.

    Our Solution
    Reduced amounts of complaints regarding motorcycle nuisance on the beat. Several warning notices issued and 3 bikes have been siezed. We will continue to patrol this location to ensure that we do not see a retunr to the use of off road motorcycles
  • Proposal For Skate Park And Lighting on Fleming Drive Park   Show details
    Local youths on the Winthorpe Road Estate have expressed that there are no faciltities for them on their estate. This has led to groups of youths gathering on Meering Avenue, due to it being a well lit area. This has then lead to complaints of noise by the local residents.



    The Youths would really like the Kick Wall on Fleming Drive Park to have lighting so that they can play football there, they have also said that they would like a Skate Park.

    Our Response
    Local PCSO's will talk further to the youths to ascertain exactly what they want.



    Local councillor to request Skate Park equipment to be placed on Fleming Drive and a request for funding for lighting will be made by the local Tenants and residents group.

    Our Solution
    Die to Dispersal order in place reports of ASB have dropped on the Winthorpe Road estate. New facilties will be provided by the local school and events are running throughout the summer months
  • Parking Problems on Harvest Drive and Linseed Avenue   Show details
    It was decided at the last Safer Neighbourhood Meeting held that the Parking problems on Harvest Drive and Linseed Avenue would be a priority for the Bridge SNG.
    Residents of Linseed Avenue area have raised problems with parking in the area, such as. Causing obstructions to other road users and blocking pathways.
    Linseed Avenue is a residential street that is off Harvest Drive in Newark. On Harvest Drive there are several business premises such as KFC and MacDonald’s. Harvest Drive and the fast food outlets are located on a busy roundabout just of the A46 and A1. The parking problems are believed to be caused by passing trade to the fast food outlets.

    Councillor Dawn informed at the last meeting held in January that The Highways Department have been in contact and advised that Yellow Lines will be placed on Harvest Drive.
    Newark Police have not received any further complaints from residents regarding parking issues in the area

    No reports received from local residents however we are advised this is still a problem. Numerous warning notices have been placed on cars parking in the area. This will continue. The local councillor for the area will also make enquiries with Notts County Council regarding the area.


    Our Solution
    It was discussed at the meeting that this priority could now be closed as we have not received any complaints for several months.
    Highways department have confirmend that yellow lines will be soon be in place and the sng will continue to monitor the progress
  • Fly Tipping and Misuse of Scrap Collecting vehicles   Show details
    It was decided at the SNG meeting held in July that the group would look at Fly Tipping and the Misuse of scrap collecting vehicles. It was reported that in several locations fly tipping is taking place and that scrap vehicles are causing problems on the estate, including parking and noise nuisance. It was also suggested that numerous vehicles are operating without the correct licences.

    Update 05/01/2012
    At the last SNG meeting held on the 4th January it was reported that there seem to be fewer scrap vehicles on the beat and that Operation Metallica that is run in Newark by Nottinghamshire Police seems to have had a positive impact on the problem.

    Update 20/12/2011
    On Wednesday 14/12/2011an Operation was conducted in Newark to combat the misuse of Scrap Collecting Vehicles. Officers from Nottinghamshire Police, Newark and Sherwood District Council and other agencies all worked together on the day. Vehicles were checked and dealt with at a check point.

    Update 21/09/2011
    Nottinghamshire Police have held two days of action in relation to the Misuse of Scrap Collecting vehicles. Stolen property was recovered, vehicles were defected due to being un road worthy and several users were reported for not having the correct licences to operate in the vehicles. There will be more action over the next few months in relation to this priority.

    The local safer neighbourhood team will liaise with the district council regarding any reports of fly tipping and nuisance caused by the vehicles. Vehicles will be periodically checked to ensure that the vehicles are in operation with the correct licences. Any found without licences will be reported to the Environmental Agency and positive action will be taken.

  • Nuisance caused by Off Road Bikes and Mini Motos   Show details
    It was decided at the last Safer Neighbourhood meeting held on 12th May 2010 that Nuisance caused by Off Road Bikes and Mini Motos would be a priority for Bridge Beat.
    Several complaints have been made regarding Off Road bikes and Mini Motos. Youths are riding the bikes on the road in a reckless manner and causing noise pollution
    Hotspot areas for the use of the off road bikes are Yorke Drive, Lincoln Road Playing Field and an area known locally as "The Base" located off the A46 and the end of Winthorpe Road.

    Nothing to report regarding nuisance caused by off road bikes on Bridge Beat. Regular patrols are made and positive action taken when reports are made

    Update 16.07.2010

    On the 13th July a male was issued with a section 59 warning for riding a morobike on common land.
    Reports of off road bikes has been lower over the last few weeks but this issue will still be monitored by the local beat team

    Update 25.06.2010
    On the 21st June a male was sighted on an off road bike on Hatchets Lane. This male will be issued with a Section 59 Warning.
    On Tuesday 22nd June officers attended the Nether Lock area after reports of youths riding bikes on the land.
    One male was arrested for riding a stolen motorbike and the bike was seized. Another bike was seized under the section 59 Act and the male riding the bike will also receive a formal warning.

    Hotspot areas to be patrolled.
    Section 59 warnings to be issued.
    Bikes seized where possible and the areas the bikes are used by the bikes to be looked at regarding access being blocked off.

  • Parking Problems on Brunel Drive   Show details
    It was decided at the last SNG meeting held on the 2nd March that Parking Problems on Brunel Drive would be a priority for Bridge Beat.
    Employees of businesses on Brunel Drive, Whittle Close and Farrar close have raised problems with parking in the area. Causing obstructions to other road users and blocking path ways. Its has also been reported that businesses are having to turn away deliveries as the Lorries are unable to gain access.

    Awaiting feedback from Newark and Sherwood District Council regarding plans to rejuvenate the area which involves the Industrial Estate.
    Patrols continue to monitor the parking on Brunel Drive

    Fewer complaints regarding parking issues. Patrols continue to monitor the problem.

    New priorities have now been set and this will now be looked at within one of the new priorities.
  • Street Drinking on Yorke Drive   Show details
    It was decided at the last SNG meeting in July that street drinking on Yorke Drive would be a new priority for the area. It has been reported that street drinking has increased. Yorke Drive is covered by a Designated Public Place Order which forbids the consumption of alcohol in a public place.

    Update 05/01/2011
    Its was a repoted at the last SNG meeting held on the 4th January that Street Drinking on Yorke Drive has reduced. Residents have reported to us that groups are not drinking in groups on the street anymore.

    Update 20/12/2011
    Alcohol has been confiscated from 3 Males on Yorke Drive.
    Reports of street drinking have reduced.
    No reports of Street Drinking have been received from emeber of the public in the last month.


    Extra patrols will be done in the area and those found breaching the Designated Public Place Order will have their alcohol confiscated. Persons responsible can be given an on the spot fine of £50.

  • Vehicle nuisance   Show details
    It was decided at the last SNG meeting that Nuisance vehicles would be a priority for Bridge Beat.
    Regular offenders are gathering in the car parks of McDonalds and KFC on Lincoln Road Newark and then racing down Lincoln Road and driving in convoys.
    Off Road motorbikes and Mini Motos are also a problem on the estate

    The last meeting was held on the 4th May and it was reported that motorbike nuisance is on going on the beat. Off Road bike officers have recently patrolled the estate with a positive outcome.

    At the last meeting held on the 2nd March it was fed back in to the group that we have had no reports of boy racers in the area but that it appears to still be a problem. Patrols are regularly conducted in the area.

    Update 20/01/2011
    At the last meeting held in January it was reported back that the vehicle nuisance has been reduced. Newark Police have received a handful of complaints regarding boy racers at MacDonald’s and persons responsible have been advised regarding their driving.

    Reports of off road bikes have reduced, however KFC are still having problems with cars causing nuisance in their car park. Warning letters have been sent out to cars causing problems, stated by KFC.

    Our Solution
    It was discussed at the last meeting that the nuisance caused by the motorbikes had died down due to several bikes being seized and several youths warned.
