Beacon, Winthorpe, Collingham And Meering
The Collingham, Coddington and The Meerings beat area is situated north east of Newark, the area in question covers approximately 40.47square miles and incorporates the villages of Coddington, Barnby in the Willows, Brough, Danethorpe, Langford, Winthorpe, Holme, Collingham, Besthorpe, Girton, South Scarle, Spalford, Wigsley South Clifton, North Clifton, Thorney, and Drinsey Nook.
It is in the main a rural community, which each year comes together at the local Showground to hold one of the largest agricultural shows within the county. We do however have one of the largest Currys Depots in the country, which is situated along the A1 and throughout the villages there are various smaller businesses within the communities.
The main arterial routes through the area are the A1, A46, A17, A1133 and the River Trent along with the main railway line that runs through to Nottingham and Lincoln.
The area also supports several Nursery, Infant and Junior Schools that help to serve the diverse communities.
All but six of the villages hold regular Parish Council meetings that we as the local Safer Neighbourhood Team attend.
Cluster level priorities for the Newark area of Newark and Sherwood District are set at quarterly Priority Setting Meetings held at Kelham Hall. These meetings consist of the local neighbourhood Policing Inspector and the chairs of the Safer Neighbourhood Groups from each of the beat team areas who raise the issues brought to them at the local Safer neighbourhood Group. The dates for these meetings are shown in each beat area. Also considered are local crime and anti social behaviour trends and the results of crime surveys. The dates for the priority setting meetings which are open to the public are;
17 30 Thursday 19th of April 2012
Wednesday 11th of July 2012
Tuesday 9th of October 2012
Under the Policing Pledge, this is a rural beat and has a 20 minute emergency response time. For an explanation of what this means click here.

Residents of Collingham and the Meerings are to be reminded of how to deal with Doorstep Callers;
Sales people who call at your home may seem friendly and genuine. They may use high-pressure sales techniques by telling you scare-stories, or offering you a special discount or ‘free gift’…They only want one thing and that is to sell you something so they can make money.
Another type of caller you may get is the odd-jobber who is in the area. Sometimes they will tell you they have spotted a problem with your roof or chimney. Others say that they have had some paving slabs or tarmac left over from another job. All of them promise a bargain…These bargains almost always cost more than they are worth.
Trading Standards get many complaints about poor workmanship or even no work being done at all.
WHAT YOU SHOULD DO?
• Use a door viewer or window to see who your caller is.
• Put your chain or bar on before you open the door.
• Check the identity of the caller.
Do not let the caller into your house until you have verified the callers ID. Do not rely on the number they give you, it may not be genuine. Do this by ringing his/her employer using the telephone number listed in the phone book.
ANY DOUBT? … KEEP THEM OUT!
