- Anti social behaviour in Southwell and sorrounding areas Show details
Priority Settings Meeting (PSM) update
This priority has been identified after consultation with the local community; through the Southwell and Muskham, Caunton and Sutton Safer Neighbourhood groups and Neighbourhood Priority Surveys and all other engagement opportunities. This has subsequently been agreed by the Sherwood Priority setting Meeting on the 17/01/12 to be a priority
There have been complaints of anti social behaviour particuarly on The Memorial Park in Southwell and Nelson Lane North Muskham where large groups of young people are gathering and causing a nuisance mainly on the same days as the youth club and at weekends.
Our Response
We will conduct high visibility patrols using Beat Officers, Beat PCSO, and Special Constables in the affected areas. Stop/search will be conducted on groups or individuals who we believe to have alcohol or illegal drugs. All alcohol will be taken from underage drinkers, or any one who is consuming alcohol in a designated area, and will be booked into Southwell Police Station for destruction later. Any groups of youths seen will be spoken too and advised regarding their behaviour and enforcement action taken if required. Letters will also be sent to parents by the Anti Social Behaviour Team from Newark and Sherwood District Council informing them of their childs behaviour.
Update December 2011
Operation Acologic (ASB) has been carried out between 5pm and 1am on 10/12/11 by the Southwell Neighbourhood Policing Team. There were no seizures of alcohol. Apart from an incident of banging on doors, Southwell has not had any reports of Anti Social Behaviour on Friday and Saturday evening’s for the last 6 weekends. These operations will continue into the New Year and beyond.

After extensive enquiries, 4 youths have been questioned regarding the obscene graffiti on the old Minster Grounds boarding. We expect to charge a number of youths with Criminal Damage within the next few weeks.
