Update Jan 2012
After consultation with the members of the Safer Neighbourhood Group on 03/01/12, it was decided the issues being tackled by the Southwell Neighbourhood Policing Team during January, February and March 2012 are as follows -
- Anti Social Behaviour in and around Southwell,The Memorial Park in particular with Operation Acologic running most Friday and Saturday evenings.
-Speeding on Lower Kirklington Road Southwell, Church Street Southwell and Oxton Road Southwell.
-Speeding will also continue on Great North Road Sutton on Trent and on Main Street Upton
It has been a very successful last few months with Operation Acologic (ASB) in Southwell, with only 2 reports of Anti Social Behaviour on Friday and Saturday evenings since the beginning of December 2011. There were no reports during the normally busy Xmas period between the 21st December and New Years Day. We have not confiscated any alcohol of under age drinkers at all through the Xmas period and even during the months of October and November 2011. This is a trend that will hopefully continue in 2012, but the Anti Social Behaviour Operation will still continue over the weekends.
Around 75 young people have been dealt with over the last year regarding under age drinking and being drunk on the streets of Southwell. Parents were given the option of a Fixed Penalty Notice (Fine) or to attend an Alcohol Awareness Course with members of the National Health Service present to explain the dangers of alcohol to young people and the effects it has on young bodies that are not yet fully developed. Most chose the Course and attended Southwell Police Station for approximately 2 hours. Hopefully this has been affective in the reduction we have seen over the last 3 months in alcohol seizures and young people being detained. That has to be good news for all concerned.
Speeding Operations will start again when we get lighter mornings, until then we will be staging Speed Calming Operations in the affected area's during the months of January, February and March 2012. All speeding drivers will be stopped and dealt with positively.
