Completed Neighbourhood Priorities

  • Antisocial behaviour and littering Whitewater Road Ollerton   Show details
Antisocial behaviour and littering has been identified as a priority in Whitewater Road, New Ollerton. This Priority was selected at the Safer Neighbourhood Group held on 11/09/2008 by agreement of this group. This is a particular problem on Friday and Saturday evenings between 6pm and 11pm.

The end shop (nearest to Chestnut Drive) is still empty/derelict. There is rubbish on the land at the side and young people are gathering and drinking there, particularly on a Friday and Saturday evening.

    Our Response
We will conduct high profile patrols using Beat Officers, PCSOs and Special Constables. These officers will pay attention to the area taking positive action against anyone found committing an offence.

Any young person found under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs will be taken home and their parents spoken to. Persistent troublemakers will be asked to enter into an antisocial behaviour contract with the police and Newark and Sherwood Council Antisocial Behaviour Officers to improve their behaviour.

We will continue to work with the Town Council and Newark and Sherwood Council to get the shop occupied as soon as possible, the land cleared and any littering dealt with.

Update December 2009; Work has started on the empty shop and the land to the side has been fenced off preventing access to the rear of the shop which will prevent it from being used by local youths. Patrols have continued in the area by the Safer Neighbourhood Team.

Update January 2010; Patrols have continued in the area. The work on the shop seems to have caused some displacement with groups starting to gather further down on Whitewater Road. This area is being regularly patrolled to discourage this and the Ollerton dispersal order has been renewed to enable groups to be dispersed.

Update February 2010; Your safer neighbourhood team have continued patrols in the area and the number of reported incidents has continued to be low.

    .

    Our Solution
Increased police patrols in the area,
    Redevelopment of the empty shop,
Change in occupation policy for Whitewater Road flats.
