Beat Update

Update February 2012

The Carlton and Langold beat team have now relocated to Carlton-in-Lindrick Village Hall, Oakham Drive (off Long Lane), Carlton-in-Lindrick.

The Worksop North Villages Neighbourhood is currently showing an increase in all crime when compared to 2010/2011. We have recorded 60 extra crimes.

Theft offences, Burglary of homes and Autocrime have all increased. However we have seen a reduction in Robbery , Burglary of outbuildings and commercial premises, criminal damage and violent crime.

Please be reassured in response to this rise in crime we have introduced Operation Connascent which will see an increase in covert and overt patrols in the area to prevent crime and bring to justice those who are harming our communities through crime. This has already had an effect in reducing overnight vehicle crime in Langold.

We have noticed that some street lighting has been switched off from midnight. Please be assured that we are working alongside the Parish Council to try and get the lighting switched back on and we do not support this decision.

You can help us in reducing crime by following advice below and if you have any information as to who may be committing these offences by ringing crime stoppers in confidence on 0800 555 111.

As the nights now draw in early, we would ask all residents to be aware of security.

Some simple steps that can be taken include:

At home

• Use strong locks on all external doors and easy to reach windows - such as those on the ground floor, above flat roofs or near drainpipes
• Don’t hang keys where they could easily be reached through a letterbox or window and never leave them on a sideboard where they are visible
• Keep valuable items away from windows where they could be seen by passers-by. This includes home computers and television sets
• Close the curtains when it becomes dark to prevent people looking in to your property.
• Think about using time switches so that you property inside is always lit up at various times especially with the darker nights.

Garages and sheds

• Try to keep your garage door open only for as long as is necessary. If thieves can see there is something worth stealing from a garage they could come back later and break in
• As with items in your home, valuables stored in either a shed or a garage should be marked with your postcode and house number so if they are stolen and recovered you can be traced and reunited with your property
• Large expensive equipment, like lawn mowers, should be fastened to something bulky. Alternatively, fit anchor posts attached to the floor to provide a fixed point for locking your belongings to

Vehicles

• Don’t leave windows and roofs open on vehicles while they are unattended
• When leaving your vehicle make sure there is nothing on show
• If you have a satellite navigation (SatNav) system in your car remove it when you leave your vehicle and wipe away sucker marks from your windscreen

www.immobilise.com is a national property website where you can register all of your belongings.

Please be vigilant, if it is an emergency dial 999 or 101 in a non emergency situation. You can also give information anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555111
