Worksop Town Centre

Back to Worksop South Cluster

Worksop is an extremely busy market town with many qualities that attract all members of the community. A great deal of history surrounds Worksop Town Centre including the paved area that resembles an heraldic Lion and Unicorn, and Churches that have been in place since the year 1103.

There are many retail outlets within the town centre, these range from pharmacists, clothing departments, herbal shops, travel agents, numerous banks, hairdressing and beauty salons, fitness studios and many more. The Priory Centre has recently been re-developed and now has a further ten shops.

Despite the common held belief that the town centre is purely commercial / retail premises the beat does consist of a large amount of dwelling houses, and a large community centre on the periphery that hosts numerous events for all ages, ranging from young children up to OAP'S, and in conjunction with such events it has a range of leisure facilities too.

It also hosts a vast range of restaurants, and fast food outlets. There are a number of public houses all of which are members of the pub watch scheme. This will help ensure your visit is enjoyable and safe.

Under the Policing Pledge, this is an urban beat and has a 15 minute emergency response time. For an explanation of what this means click here.

Beat Update

Update May 2012

The police are currently concentrating on street drinking, cycling on the pedestrian area and shoplifting in the Town Centre area. This is being done by working closely with Security Staff and CCTV. Alcohol is being seized on a daily basis from individuals in the Town Centre and anyone seen cycling is dealt with immediately. We are looking to serve ASBOs and banning orders on certain persistent offenders when there is sufficient evidence to do so. We are working towards making Worksop Town Centre a safe and pleasant environment for members of the public to visit and to attract new businesses to the area.

We would also like to welcome PCSO Georgina Fletcher to the Town Centre beat team. Georgina has moved here from Retford and has already made an impact and will be a welcome addition to the Team.

A renewed emphasis is being placed on Anti-Social Behaviour and Criminal Damage which accounts for one third of all crime on the Town Centre. We will be using convert and overt patrols to alleviate the problems and will be working closely with CCTV to identify individuals.

Cycling on the pedestrian area often places pedestrians at risk of injury and are a constant annoyance to the community of Worksop. Any cyclist seen will be dealt with immediately.
