Ashfield North

Ashfield North Safer Neighbourhood Team

Not only one of the largest Neighbourhood Policing Areas in the county, Ashfield North is also one of the busiest outside the city of Nottingham.

The Neighbourhood Policing Area incorporates the former coalfield towns of Sutton-in-Ashfield and Kirkby-in-Ashfield, nearby Huthwaite, Stanton Hill, Teversal, Woodhouse and the rural parish of Annesley.

Ashfield North is currently divided into 10 beats each with their own named Beat Managers and Police Community Support Officers offering visible and effective policing.

Key priorities across the Neighbourhood Policing Area continue to be house burglary, auto-crime and violent crime. Anti-social behaviour and other issues affecting local communities are also very high on our agenda.

We will do number 1 by working with the business in the Town Centre so that people who commit shop theft are not allowed in shops. We will also work with the business and our partners to prosecute offenders caught shop lifting and use the various tools and powers available if they will not rehabilitate, to keep them away.

We will do numbers 2 and 3 by conducting reassurance patrols at key times and dealing with anyone causing ASB positively. We will work with partner agencies to divert people from causing Anti-Social Behaviour. If people continue to commit Anti-Social Behaviour we will then work with partners to enforce the various tools and powers we have under legislation.

    Our Response
    Update 19th January 2012

    Priority 1:

During December and January the beat team have been working with the shops to reduce shop theft. We have done this by plain clothed and uniformed patrols targeting known shop lifters.

During the plain clothes operation we arrested 3 people for various offences and gained lots of intelligence that will assist us with other matters.

We will be continuing this for the foreseeable future.

    Priority 2

Sutton Town Centre has seen a fall in the number of vehicles causing nuisance over the last month. This is a culmination of working with our partners and targeted patrols with enforcement action in the Town Centre. We are continuing to monitor this closely and should it reoccur will take positive action.

    Priority 3.

The partnership between the police and Ashfield district Council has secured a Dispersal Zone within Huthwaite. Full details on the area it covers is on the Sutton West Web page.

To date we have had no breaches and it has significantly cut the number of reports of anti-social behaviour on the area.

In relation to High Hazel Drive. We are working with Ashfield District Council Community protection service and the relevant landlords to reduce the anti-social behaviour on the street. Targeted patrols have been conducted by the 2 teams.
