Kirkby Central

Back to Ashfield North

The Kirkby Central Beat is a community of approximately 6,215 people and approximately 2,628 households. The beat stretches from the road known as Kingsway, as far as the boundary with Annesley Woodhouse and then back towards 'old Kirkby'. There are also three well known recreation areas known as Portland Park, Kingsway Park and Titchfield Park.

There are a number of schools and places of worship. The arterial routes of Kingsway, Urban Road and Victoria Road cross the beat. Interestingly, the local Police Station is also situated within the beat.

Under the Policing Pledge, this is an urban beat and has a 15 minute emergency response time. For an explanation of what this means click here.

Update 9 January 2012
On Kirkby Central the crime fugures have steadily fallen, especially burglarys which have fallen dramitically. A number of drug related warrants have been executed which have had a positive effect on the area.
We also held a day of action just prior to Christmas againt speeding and parking issues around the kirkby area. Update 29 June 2011-
Now the summer months are upon us, the beat team are strongly urging residents to take measures to secure and protect their property. Below are a few pointers on general home security:-

1. Always close and lock external doors and windows- even if you are just going out for a short time.
2. Try to get into the habit of double-checking window and door locks when you are going to bed.
3. Be careful not to leave keys, including spares, near the door or where they could be reached from outside.
4. Burglar alarms that are visible, good home lighting and security lighting in the right places can put burglars off.
5. Timers are good. Use timers to switch on lights and radios when you are away from home.
6. Never leave garages or sheds unlocked, especially if they are connected to your property.
7. Fit a door 'spy hole'. Fitting a spy hole allows you to see who is at the door. A door chain lets you open the door a little way to talk to the caller.

Spring is here and no doubt you're preparing to get into your garden. Nottinghamshire Police and their partner agencies are keeping an eye on known offenders, but there are a few simple measures you can take to protect your property

1. Check your shed to make sure it hasn't been broken into over the winter
2. Mark and photograph the property you keep in your shed. Register serial numbers at www.immobilise.com. This will help Police identify and return your property if it is stolen and recovered later.
3. Secure your shed by fitting a padlock and consider putting wire mesh across windows
4. Fit a motion-activated outside light.
5. Plant prickly shrubs near windows, drainpipes, and fences.
