Beat Priorities
Through consultation with the members of the public in this beat we regularly set out a number of priorities to be tackled.
- Antisocial behaviour Show details
Numerous reports have been recieved concerning under age individuals purchasing alcohol from the shops on the Leamington Estate. This is not only an offence but causes concern for the other residents who witness young people under the influence of alcohol.
Our Response
April 2011 Update
Sutton Lawns has started to have further calls from the public over recent weeks, with the increase in the good weather the people attending the park has increased which has resulted in increased street drinking and use of motor bikes.
This is being combatted by high visibility patrols by both POlice and Community Protection Officers and the taking of people home to their parents.
March 2011 Update - At the most recent Leamington and Eastfield Side Safer Neighbourhood Committees, the reports of under age purchasing of alcohol from local shops specifically on the Leamington Estate was not raised or spoken about as current issues. Of course we are aware that youths are still purchasing alcohol from shops but no recent reports or concerns have been reported to the Police for investigation.
The Beat Team however are working closely with Ashfield Council and Licensing Departments. If any intelligence or reports are reported to the Police in relation to the purchasing of alcohol from our local shops, we will work closely with partner agencies to take positive action.
MAY 2010 Update - the beat team have been making regular contact with the shops on the estate to try and reduce the anti social behavoiur problems and been on the area at peak times
Local shops in the area have been visited by police and have been informed of the problems being reported by the community.
Challenge '25's has been promoted as good practice to ensure alcohol is not being sold to under age customers.
Police alcohol licensing dept has conducted test purchases in the area to ensure compliance by the off licences.
Partnership working has also played a large part in tackling this problem.
Continued engagement with the local community by way of beat surgeries and tenants and residents meetings is also ongoing to ensure we get a constant stream of up to date information and intelligence to act on.
Positive action in relation to Anti Social Behaviour has been taken in the way of 'Direction to leave the locality', tickets and arrests wherever possible.
These combined efforts have seen a recent reduction in reported crime and anti social behaviour.
