Beat Update

DECEMBER 2011

Operation Democratic was run on a number of days during December leading up to the Christmas and New Year period. Intelligence indicated that a number of people were actively involved in dealing controlled drugs in and around Sutton Town Centre on a daily basis, mainly during the daytime. It is believed that the supply of drugs into the town centre is driving crime in and around this area, as the vast majority of Shoplifters are known to have drug and alcohol issues and are stealing to feed a drug habit. Officers worked within Sutton Town Centre either in uniform or plain clothes and carried out a number of Stop/Searches on individuals with a view to finding controlled drugs or stolen property. The Operation resulted in the arrest of a male that had been wanted by Leicestershire Police on a Court warrant from back in October, a male arrested and dealt with for shoplifting from Asda Superstore in the town and numerous Stop/Searches.
Speeding vehicles continues to be an issue around the Sutton area. During December officers ran an operation along Lammas Road, which had been highlighted by local residents as a hotspot. A total of 9 vehicles were caught doing 40mph or above and the drivers prosecuted. As part of the Christmas drink/drive campaign all drivers of the vehicles stopped were breathalysed.
Auto-crime continues to be a priority for Nottinghamshire Police. During the month of December numerous vehicles were found parked within the town centre and its numerous car parks with items left on display. These items range from mobile phones and laptops to handbags and Christmas presents. The details of the vehicles were noted down and their owners sent a letter reminding them about leaving items on display.
