Meet the Neighbourhood Policing
Team Inspector
Inspector Andy Clarke
Inspector Andy Clarke was born and bred in Nottinghamshire. He joined the force in 1985 when he was stationed as a Police Constable at the Meadows.
He moved to Sutton in 1987 and worked in both Sutton and Kirkby before moving to the traffic department in 1991.
Ten years later he returned to the division and was promoted to Sergeant in 2003, based at Mansfield.
He has since taken on various acting and temporary roles and was made Ashfield North Neighbourhood Policing Inspector in October 2008.
Insp Clarke said: “It’s been three years since I joined the Ashfield North team as Inspector. During this time we have seen significant changes in the way we do business and continually support our community. For one, we work very closely with communities and partner agencies, such as Ashfield District Council, the Community Protection Service and private enforcement teams.
“Overall in Ashfield North this year, we have 2801 fewer victims of crime than when I arrived in 2008 and, as of the end of August 2011, we have 225 less victims of crime compared to this time last year.
“Our crime detection rate as of this month (September) is at 35%, 15% up this time last year.
“We are better at identifying and disrupting criminal activity and are much quicker at processing warrants and making arrests - what used to take days now takes hours, if that - and we are the force lead on burglary reduction, having done a lot of work with repeat victims of this particularly intrusive crime.
“I am very proud of the hard work done by all my colleagues, including response officers, beat teams, CID and other departments to achieve these results, but we will not stop there.
“I still have concerns around the level of antisocial behaviour and the disruption some people have to endure from others who lack a fundamental consideration and respect for their community.
“We will continue to work closely with relevant partner agencies to support victims, and identify perpetrators and continue to strive to reduce this type of nuisance by providing the right level of service to the right people at the right time.
"I have an inherent passion for policing this part of Nottinghamshire as I've worked in this area on and off for most of my service. I am always endeavouring to facilitate any improvements I can to the policing of, what is for most of us in the team, the place we call home.”
