Meet the Neighbourhood Policing
Team Inspector
Inspector Sam Wilson
Inspector Sam Wilson began her police career in 1990 at Carlton Police Station in Nottinghamshire.
After pounding the beat in Sneinton and completing an attachment to the Force Drugs Squad, she was promoted to sergeant serving at Newark and Mansfield.
Four years in Worksop, after rising to the rank of Inspector, then gave Insp Wilson significant experience of community policing and managing large-scale operations.
Following a move back to Mansfield, Insp Wilson was delighted to be selected as Neighbourhood Policing Inspector in May 2005.
Speaking about her current role, Insp. Wilson says, "Neighbourhood priorities on Mansfield North include under-age alcohol purchase and drinking and anti social behaviour. We review these priorities every three months together with community representatives and they hold us to account for what we have done and decide whether a new priority should be set."
“I lead a fantastic team of officers and we run a large number of operations, both high visibility and covert, to impact on these problems.
“Here on Mansfield North we have a good relationship with partners from the Local Authority and other agencies and their support has been vital in bringing about positive change.
“A prime example is Operation Arctic Fox – an ongoing project to stop motorcycle nuisance across Mansfield North – which has enjoyed the continued support of Neighbourhood Wardens, Trading Standards and Neighbourhood Management Teams made up of active members of the community.”
October 2008 saw the opening of the new station at Mansfield Woodhouse, allowing staff who were working from the divisional HQ to provide a service from the heart of Mansfield North. The beat teams, response, CID and Special Constables all work from the new station which is located in a prominent position on the High Street at the junction with Rose Lane. The additional benefit of longer reception opening hours has further enhanced our accessibility to the public we serve.
As well providing officers with better working conditions, more space and superior facilities, Insp Wilson believes the new Woodhouse Police Station has improved service delivery to communities.
Insp Wilson believes her Neighbourhood Policing Area benefits from having a committed team of officers who hold a wealth of experience and local knowledge - they know who the persistent offenders are and where to target their efforts.
