Meet the Neighbourhood Policing
Team Inspector

Inspector Neil Williams

Inspector Neil Williams

My first occasion to view how the police engaged with their local community was during a sabbatical to the USA where I was employed by a charity who worked with children from socially deprived areas of New York City. It was from observing their commitment and tenacity to resolving challenging problems within the neighbourhood, that I was drawn to a career in Policing.

I joined Hampshire constabulary in 1992, initially stationed at Gosport undertaking roles including Beat Manager for the Bridgemary area, an extremely demanding neighbourhood. In 1996 I transferred to Basingstoke where I carried out various response roles including three years on the Traffic Division.

In 2002, I transferred to Nottinghamshire Police stationed at Mansfield Police Station. My roles included Beat Manager for the Mansfield South area, various roles on Proactive teams and as a Detective on CID.  In 2005 I was promoted to uniform Sergeant on a response team. Further roles included Detective Sergeant on the intelligence unit and then the Public Protection Team.

Following a period working as a temporary Detective Inspector with the Intelligence unit, I became a substantive Inspector in February 2010.

My focus has always been towards neighbourhood policing. As a father of 4 children, and living in the area I am responsible for, I have a personal interest in the problems within our community and hence I am keen to work to resolve the challenges that lie ahead.

I am proud of leading and working with a very dedicated and experienced team who work diligently to solve the problems they are faced with from within the community.
