Basford and Hyson Green
The Basford and Hyson Green Neighbourhood Policing Area, based at Radford Road Police Station, covers the neighbouring areas of Basford and Hyson Green, which lie to the north west of Nottingham city centre.
Both areas have a stop on Line One of the Nottingham Express Transit tram system. Home to one of Nottingham's most culturally diverse communities, Hyson Green has a district shopping centre and the local Forest Recreation Ground hosts Nottingham's world-famous Goose Fair every October.
Basford has a mix of residential, industrial and commercial areas and spans Nottingham's ring road.
Neighbourhood Priorities
Through consultation with the members of the public in this neighbourhood we regularly set out a number of priorities to be tackled.
- Anti social behaviour and traffic offences Show details
Following consultation with our partner agencies and feedback from the local community the neighbourhood priority for the forthcoming six months has now been set.
We will be targeting our patrols along the stretch of Radford Rd between the junctions of Gregory Boulevard and Bentinck Road, paying particular attention to anti social behaviour and traffic offences in an effort to improve the area to the benefit of all residents and business/retail owners. - Anti Social Behaviour and Graffiti in Forest Fields Show details
There has been a sharp increase in youth ASB around various hotspots in Forest Fields. Residents are reporting repeated instances of noise nuisance from large groups of teenage lads who are responsible for intimidation and graffiti tags on buildings and vehicles.
There are various hotspots in Forest Fields that move as time progresses, or when proactive police work displaces them. At present the main sites of ASB are:- 1. Laurie Ave / Stanley Rd. 2. Laurie Ave / Burford Rd. 3. The playground area of the Forest Fields Community Centre, Sturton St. 4. Wiverton Rd. 5. Foxhall Rd / Alberta Terrace.
Our Response
We have responded to this issue by increasing high visibility patrols in the area and gaining the assistance of the Anti Social Behaviour team. Officers have been encouraged to patrol with a view to identifying the young persons involved and put into place measures to stop further Anti Social Behaviour and crime.
We will work with Community Protection and the Envirocrime Team to reduce the graffiti and get it removed as well as identifying the offenders.
We will work with Challenge & Support and other Youth Services to divert the young people in the area away from offending behaviour.
We will work with Community groups to identify offenders and to ensure we have their support in this matter, keeping them fully informed of our actions.
We will work toward increasing our community engagements to provide reassurance to residents.
Current Update - February 2012
Incidents of ASB in Forest Fields remain low.
Some residents are still having lads sit on their doorstep during the evening spitting phlegm and chewing gum on the pavement at the front of the house. I have now met with the landlord of the addresses.
As well as promising additional NPT patrols I have also arranged for attention from the various youth groups out there.
The area will now be targeted by the street youth team each Tuesday evening and outreach youth workers from the Bobbersmill community centre (BCC) throughout the course of each week. The BCC are developing many youth diversionary activities at their premise that I hope my Forest Fields lads will attend.
The goal is to stop the lads from loitering there and using it as their traditional meeting place.
Lastly, my team are trying to push the lads towards an already up and running boxing club at the nearby Hyson Green boy's club, breaking their need to loiter in the estate.
Update - January 2012
Over the last month we have had a reduction of calls relating to youths causing Anti Social Behaviour (ASB). All ASB incidents have been visited and we have spoken to the callers and when possible we have spoken to the Perpetrators. High visibility patrols have been conducted in the area and we have engaged with members of the public gaining intelligence and providing reassurance to the local community.
We are still getting graffiti in Forest Fields which is an issue we continue to try to resolve. We are working closely in partnership with the council to get any graffiti removed. Please do not hesitate to contact your local Beat Team or ASB hotline if you see any.
We are still getting a lot of dog fouling in Forest Fields and mainly around Gladstone Street. The Community Protection Teams have been carrying out operations to resolve this with limited effectiveness, however fines have been issued.
If you have any information or concerns in relation to any issues that you may have then please contact your local Beat Team, Crimestoppers or the Anti Social Behaviour hotline.
Update - December 2011
Street Youth workers have engaged with youths in our sole remaining asb hotspot (Wiverton Road junction Foxhall Road). To date they have taken them on Quad biking sessions. They are looking at next introducing them to organised football events as well as indoor cricket.
We continue to support the new 11-14 years youth club at the Djanogly Academy on Gregory Boulevard every Monday from 6.00pm and are also working closely with staff at the Forest Fields Play centre on Russell Road. Their brilliant enthusiastic team are gaining great inroads with youths of all ages in the area.
We are keen to maintain our success with the present low levels of asb in Forest Fields. Should you find yourself suffering from anti-social antics in the area, please make contact with us by simply dialling "101". We will happily speak to you in confidence and help to resolve the issue. - Vernon Road - Anti Social Behaviour, Speeding Vehicles and Dog Fouling Show details
