Both areas have a stop on Line One of the Nottingham Express Transit tram system. Home to one of Nottingham's most culturally diverse communities, Hyson Green has a district shopping centre and the local Forest Recreation Ground hosts Nottingham's world-famous Goose Fair every October.

Basford has a mix of residential, industrial and commercial areas and spans Nottingham's ring road.

Neighbourhood Priorities

Through consultation with the members of the public in this neighbourhood we regularly set out a number of priorities to be tackled.

  • Rowdy/Nuisance Pleasant Court & Pleasant Row Show details
The issues have come to the attention of the NPT after recent complaints from local residents and incidents reported to the police control room and speaking with residents at a meeting on 03/02/2010. The outcome was that over recent years the area has been subject to drug dealing/using, street drinking and ASB including certain address that attract this behaviour. Working with external agencies, the NPT will be completing various community engagements including, LAG meetings and partnership meetings. This is to obtain a bigger picture of the issue by speaking to more of the community.
The main location for the drug dealing/using is Pleasant Court and Pleasant Row. The issue also spreads onto the park next to Asda, Radford Road and St Paul¿s Avenue, which runs parallel with Pleasant Row. The area of Pleasant Court and Pleasant Row is well lit, with Neighbourhood Watch signs put up in the area.

    Our Response
    September 2010

We have continued to patrol the area in the afternoon/evening periods and have also monitored the CCTV cameras during these periods. This produced some success with a few people being caught drinking on the street although the cameras location is not ideal to view the area we wanted.

Reports of Anti Social behaviour to the Police and ASB Hotline remain low.

We are interested to know whether the removal of a number of tenants has solved the problem for the time being so please contact us if you are still being affected.

    Police number is 0300 300 9999.
    ASB Hotline is 0115 9152020
    Crimestoppers is 0800 555111.

    August 2010

The number of incidents reported in July were relatively low compared to recent months. However, we are not resting on our laurels and there are a number of issues still to be dealt with.

It has recently come to our attention that prostitutes have been using the garages on a regular basis. We would like any information about this problem, especially regarding the dates and times it is happening and any vehicles and people that are involved.

Please contact your Beat Team if you have any information about this or call crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

    July 2010

The NPT will be conducting high visibility foot and cycle patrols by CPOs, PCSOs and beat manager who will conduct stop/search on offenders. This will act as a preventative measure and should deter repeat offenders. As well as conducting high visibility patrols we aim to achieve close relationships with the residents, which should ultimately improve the confidence of the community. Having this close relationship we will be able to keep the community updated on our progress, and in turn the community can update us with any more information or intelligence. NCH and NAO will be consulted with.
Intelligence will be gathered by the relationships being built with the community. Having regular contact with the community will help build an intelligence picture about the issue. Also by conducting high visibility patrols, sightings and stop checks will add to the intelligence picture being built. All information obtained will be put on to MEMEX, and system checks will be conducted on a regular basis to be kept up to date on all information.
The NPT will be working with external and internal agencies to improve the quality of life for the community. The internal agencies that will be considered will be ASB team and DSU. The ASB team will support the NPT, if necessary, to look at ABC¿s and ASBO¿s. Police enforcement will consist of stop searches where appropriate and the execution of warrants at any addresses highlighted in the use/sale of drugs.
  • Anti Social Behaviour - Vernon Park Show details
To research this problem we have spoken to local residents and park staff as well as park users which includes dog walkers, people fishing and children and adults using the sports equipment. It is generally used by people of all ages. The park can by accessed by 5 entrances in different locations. There is a variety of problems involving large groups of people congregating in the park, mainly around the pond area. They are young people aged between 12 - 16 years causing a nuisance to other park users, there are also groups of adults aged bewteen 25 - 50 years drinking alcohol and behaving in an anti social manner. There is also suspected drug dealing around the same area. The problems occur at most times of day but mainly during the early evening between 5 - 8pm.

    Our Response
    Current Update - September 2010

We have continued our patrols of Vernon Park, mainly around the pond area due to the suspected drug dealing throughout the evening.
We have continued to stop search individuals and we are still pursuing the Designated Public Place Order (DPPO) to ban alcohol from the park. We'll keep you updated with any progress.

We feel that the amount of litter and graffiti has also decreased over the last couple of weeks. Please contact us with you views.

We intend to continue our patrols and take positive action against anybody involved in ASB.

    Update – August
We have continued to increase patrols in and around the Park along with the ASB Team, which has been successful. We have arrested six persons for alcohol related anti social behaviour, issued numerous Section 27 Notices, these require people to leave the area for a specified period of time. The ASB Team are currently seeking to designate the area for a Designated Public Place Order (DPPO), which means alcohol can be confiscated from individuals drinking on the park and if they fail to handover their drink commit criminal offences.

    Update - July
Prevention by extra patrols, name checking youths, making sure the drinkers are all over legally age for drinking and that they clean up after themselves. We will be consulting with the council to see if it would be possible to make the area an alcohol exclusion zone.
The Anti Social Behaviour Team will continue to patrol the area and will look at Civil Remedies to prevent offenders returning to the area.
Community Protection officers will also be involved in additional patrols.
We will keep in constant communication with the local Community groups and ask for their help in identifying individuals.
  • Anti Social Behaviour and Graffiti in Forest Fields Show details
There has been a sharp increase in youth ASB around various hotspots in Forest Fields. Residents are reporting repeated instances of noise nuisance from large groups of teenage lads who are responsible for intimidation and graffiti tags on buildings and vehicles.
There are various hotspots in Forest Fields that move as time progresses, or when proactive police work displaces them. At present the main sites of ASB are:- 1. Laurie Ave / Stanley Rd. 2. Laurie Ave / Burford Rd. 3. The playground area of the Forest Fields Community Centre, Sturton St. 4. Wiverton Rd. 5. Foxhall Rd / Alberta Terrace.

    Our Response
    September 2010

Police patrols in Forest Fields have been increased during Ramadan, providing support to residents and visitors to the area.

We are working hard to keep down reported levels of youth based anti-social behaviour during this time. The seasonal issue of groups of youths loitering in the area until late at night persists. With support from local Mosques and families, these groups are being broken up and moved on.

We have identified hotspot areas where the groups loiter and have included them in our daily patrol plan.

    August 2010

There have been increased patrols in Forest Fields over the last few weeks and it appears that this has had the desired effect with a reduction in the amount of graffiti reported.

These patrols will continue into August.

We have consistently reduced damage and anti social behaviour during Ramadan during the last 2 years and will be continuing our efforts to ensure that everyone is able to follow their religious beliefs as well as minimising the impact on the residents.

    July 2010

Increased patrols conducted by the NPT will continue in the target areas, but this tends to displace the groups rather than deal with the issue. Youth diversionary activities are about to be set in the estate. As well as activity days on the Forest Rec, a cricket club is to be set that will run regularly throughout the summer evenings. At present the venue is anticipated at the FF community centre.
Improving the quality of life for residents in the Forest Fields area is at the forefront of this policing activity.
Those caught committing ASB should be dealt with proactively by police using their powers of arrest or PND/RFS.
Offenders may also be dealt with civilly by our partner agencies, including Council, ASB officers, school officers, social services, etc.
We will look to refer offenders to Challenge & Support and other Youth services.
We will work closely with the community to provide reassurance and gain information about these groups.
we will also work closely with the Community protection EnviroCrime team in relation to teh grafitti and utilise City Services as quickly as possible to get offensive grafitti cleaned up staright away.
