The New Basford beat covers the area bounded by Valley Road to the junction of Nottingham Road, Nottingham Road/Sherwood Rise to the junction with Alberta Terrace, Alberta Terrace/Gladstone Street to the junction with Radford Road and Radford Road to the junction with Valley Road.

The main road North Gate, that runs in an east - west direction between Radford Road and Nottingham Road, divides the area.

The area is predominantly a mixture of both social and private residential housing. The New Basford Industrial Estate, consisting of a mixture of office, manufacturing and warehouse businesses, is situated to the south of North Gate.
