Meet the Neighbourhood Policing
Team Inspector
Inspector Gurmit Kaur
Inspector Gurmit Kaur joined Nottinghamshire Police in 1987. She has carried out various roles within the Force including those within the Child Abuse Investigation Unit, a youth issues officer, a custody sergeant, site manager and PACE Inspector.
She said: “Basford and Hyson Green have vibrant diverse communities, and offer a variety of challenges.
“I have a personal interest in the area as I grew up here and feel there is a growing need for the community and police to work closely together. I share an understanding of the issues that affect local people.
“With neighbourhood policing at the forefront of day-to-day duties, I will encourage and support our community members to come forward and work within these principles. I believe that this is what policing should be about – working closely with local people and our partners such as housing, and street wardens.
”By having constructive discussions with the people we serve, we will be able to address issues that matter to them at a local level, using a problem-solving approach. We realise that the results will not always be immediate but we need to recognise and acknowledge that a medium to long-term approach can sometimes be the most effective solution.
“Crime is falling across the county, but one offence is one too many. We realise that the effects of crime have a significant impact on victims, which is why we will continue to target offenders and bring them to justice.
“Equally we want to continue to support residents to protect themselves and their property. Crime prevention advice is readily available and SmartWater, a property marking solution, is being offered to residents in certain areas, free of charge.
“My aim is to build trust and confidence with in the community so we can work together to fight crime and anti-social behaviour that affect our quality of life.
Inspector Kaur, said a quote she has always adhered to is from Mahatma Ghandi, who said: “You must be the change you wish to see in the world.”
