Bestwood and Sherwood
The Bestwood and Sherwood Neighbourhood Policing Area, based at Oxclose Lane Police Station, covers the areas of Mapperley Park, Sherwood, Bestwood and Top Valley, which lie to the north of Nottingham city centre.
Sherwood is a residential, shopping and commercial district located off the A60 Nottingham to Mansfield Road, while the Bestwood Estate, Bestwood Park and Top Valley residential areas lie north of the Nottingham ring road.
The Neighbourhood Policing Area area includes Nottingham Prison and Nottingham City Hospital. Operation Kingdom, a multi-agency policing and neighbourhood management initiative, is working to improve the quality of life on the Bestwood Estate.
Neighbourhood Priorities
Through consultation with the members of the public in this neighbourhood we regularly set out a number of priorities to be tackled.
- Autocrime Show details
30/01/2012
After consultation with the local community and our partners, it has been identified that autocrime in the SHERWOOD area, is an emerging issue.
Our Response
Current Update 30/01/2012
The neighbourhood Policing Team have devised a problem solving plan to address this emerging issue and we are very keen to catch those responsible. We would like to encourage the community to contact us with any information on our new telephone number 101, or speak to us in the community at one of our static surgeries, the dates of which are published on the website.
The 999 system should still however be used in more urgent cases, for example where a crime is in progress or someone is in danger.
The Neighbourhood Policing Plan will include:
Increased High visibility patrols
Increased Alert messages
Crime Prevention Activities
Intelligence gathering
Targeting known offenders
- Prostitution on Mapperley Road and Vickers Street Show details
There are problems with on-street prostitution and kerb crawlers on Mapperley Road and Vickers Street which has been highlighted by local residents to the Beat Team and local partners, through local surveys and reporting of incidents.
Our Response
04/05/2012
The Prostitution Task Force continues to operate in the Mapperley area, tracing and prosecuting offenders. There are also, in addition, high visibility patrols to reassure the public and deter would be offenders.
Illegal activity has been taking place in gardens, private property and the communal areas of shared accommodation. The Neighbourhood Action Team are looking at ways of tackiling and preventing this with gating and other preventative measures but ask that you are vigilant, shutting and closing gates and doors wherever possible and ask that you report any suspicious or illegal activity to the police so that we can catch and prosecute offenders and know where to concentrate our efforts. - Anti Social Behaviour Show details
26th April 2012
Through community consultation, and reports recieved by the Police and NCC ASB hot line it has been identified that ASB on the new Bestwood Estate especially around Edmonstone Crescent and Paviour Road is a problem.
Groups of youths are gathering and being a nuisance to residents being abusive and acting in a general anti social manner.
Our Response
9th May 2012.
The individuals identified have now all been served with a warning letter and each seen by Officers from the ASB team. They have been left with no doubt that they have been identified and should they continue to behave in such an anti social manner then we will pursue them further.
I am pleased to say that from the number of incidents we have had reported, the problem has vastly improved. We have dedicated extra resources into the area and will continue to do so.
Please if the issues are still happening then get in touch with us and let us know.
27 th April 2012
We have completted a letter drop in the affected area together with contact details for the local Officers please get in contact with us if you are having problems.
26th April 2012
We have had several complaints recently about a group who have been hanging around the ‘New Bestwood Estate’ causing residents and visitors abuse and anti social behaviour.
We have increased our patrols into the area with staff from Oxclose Lane, the anti social behaviour team, community protection officers and the dedicated anti social behaviour car.
We have already identified some of the group and they will be visited and spoken to about their behaviour and actions. Those individuals that we have evidence against will embark on the process towards being issued an anti social behaviour order, this process gives them the opportunity to change and stop causing a nuisance to others but if they fail to adhere to it they will end up at court with an application for a full order and breaching that order is arrestable and they can face time in prison.
Through consultation we have decided that the area will become the new neighbourhood priority for the next three months. This allows us to direct the appropriate resources not only from the Police but also from our partners.
I want to assure you all that we are taking action to ensure that those responsible either stop or if they continue then they will face the appropriate punishment.
We cannot do this alone and even though I have dedicated additional resources into the area we cannot be there constantly. We therefore rely on you to call us and inform us what is happening, who is involved and how it makes you feel. Rest assured we will not divulge your details to those involved. I have made the area a priority response area so we can attend quickly where operational commitments allow.
If an incident is happening then please use the 999 system. Where you want to pass on any information then please make contact with one of the dedicated community Police team , please see attached details or by ringing 101.
