Neighbourhood Priorities

Through consultation with the members of the public in this neighbourhood we regularly set out a number of priorities to be tackled.

  • Antisocial behaviour Show details
As a result of a meeting of the Broxtowe Safer Neighbourhood Group held on the 9th of December 2009. Members were consulted, and as a result of feedback from Local area groups, Councillors and our partners within Community Protection, and Housing. We also conducted community surveys to link in with the process. It was decided that Anti Social Behaviour should be nominated as one of our Neighbourhood Priorities for the area. A further meeting will be held again in March 2010, where we will review our progress.

    Current areas identified:May 2010

    Flamsteed Shops, Strelley.
    & Lancaster Way .
This is an area that attracts groups of young people most evenings throughout the week, and weekends. These groups can often deter the local community from using these shops and local park, as they have told us that they feel intimidated and threatened.

    Allendale Avenue Aspley
It has been brought to our attention via LAG meetings, community engagement events and by patrolling that youths are causing general ASB in and around the area of Allendale Avenue. There appears to be a group of 20+ youths aged between 12 years up to about 17 years old causing problems for local residents. Damage to fencing, rowdy behaviour in the street, foul and abusive language and intimidation are frequently being aimed at by-passers and residents. This occurs most evenings between 6pm and 11pm. The focal area for this behaviour would appear to be the bottom end of Allendale Avenue.

Aspley Lane and Beechdale Road Beechdale
Youths playing ball games and causing a nuisance to local residents.

    Lindfield Road Broxtowe
Problems with youths on Lindfield Road. The youths are causing noise issues and are underage drinking on the streets. The problem period appears to be between the times on 7 pm and 9 pm daily and this is having an effect on residents as they are avoiding leaving their addresses during this time as they wish to avoid any confrontation

    Our Response
    OUR RESPONSE

·We will increase uniform presence from Police and our partners at Community Protection by patrolling these areas.

·We will direct Patrols to the area using intelligence led policing.

·We will work with our partners to increase diversionary opportunities for those aged under 18. In particular Youth Intervention, we will set up projects aimed at giving Young people in the area alternatives. This will be in partnership with our Schools, Extended Schools Services, and Youth Services.

·Where premises are identified as selling alcohol to underage persons we will mount test purchase operations.

·We will make use of CCTV cameras at hotspots to gather evidence and discourage anti social behaviour.

·We will consider making use of civil alternatives for example, Acceptable behaviour contracts and antisocial behaviour orders being made at court.

·We will respond to calls in relation to anti social behaviour on a more frequent basis and attend as urgent (60 minutes) or immediate (15 minutes) dependant upon the severity of the behaviour at the time.

·Where individuals are seen and spoken to on the street all information will be passed to our partners at community protection and Housing for action.

·We will work with housing officers from Nottingham City Homes, private landlords to invoke measures to deal with issues relating to tenants causing Anti Social Behaviour.

    CURRENT UPDATE MAY 2010
The teams continue to address this issue by conducting high visibility patrols and working closely with our partners to control the behaviour of the people responsible.
We will always try to allow the people identified for Anti social behaviour the opportunity to alter this themselves. Any failures to do so will always be progressed by our teams. There have been several offenders dealt with over the last few weeks either arrested for other matters or being given warning letters from Housing, or Community protection. We have some good links with all of our local Schools and are working to educate young people about the effects of Anti Social Behaviour on the community. We have also had some great feedback from the community about our Street racing events. These have attracted healthy numbers of young people from all our area to compete against each other in a safe environment. If you require more information regarding these issues or you would like to attend some of our local events please look at the individual Beat pages for, Aspley, Strelley, Beechdale, and Broxtowe.

  • Cannabis cultivation Show details
As a result of a meeting of the Broxtowe Safer Neighbourhood Group held on the 9th of December 2009. Members were consulted, and as a result of feedback from Local area groups, Councillors and our partners within Community Protection, and Housing. We also conducted community surveys to link in with the process. It was decided that production and supply of Class C drugs namely Cannabis, should be nominated as one of our Neighbourhood Priorities for the area.
We believe that by tackling this issue it will have a direct impact on the well being of our community, safe guarding our young people, together with reducing associated Anti social behaviour, and reducing crime committed to fund addiction.
A further meeting will be held again in March 2010, where we will review our progress.

This has been a problem in the past. The Council have refused to lock the gates during the evenings.
