Beat Officers

Beat Priorities

Through consultation with the members of the public in this beat we regularly set out a number of priorities to be tackled.

  • Speeding vehicles Show details
Residents have been concerned with vehicles breaking the speed limit on roads in the Beechdale area. Aspley Lane , Robinswood Road and Beechdale Road in particular have been affected.

    Our Response
    CURRENT UPDATE AUGUST 2010
The work to deter speeding drivers is ongoing, with beat officers undertaking operations on key roads in the area. In addition, response officers at Broxtowe are aware of the speeding issue in the area as a whole and have conducted their own checks.

    UPDATE JULY 2010
Speeding continues to be a priority for the community and police have continued to patrol the area to deter offenders. We continue to consult with traffic management and they have been invited to attend the LAG meeting scheduled for August. Officers have conducted various speeding operation and several drivers have been warned in relation to speeding. The speeding operation is ongoing and will continue throughout July and August. If you would like to take part in the speeding operation please contact one of your beat team members and you could help police assist catching speeding motorists in your community.

    UPDATE JUNE 2010
This remains a priority for the Community and we continue to patrol this area to deter offenders. We are currently in consultation with traffic management to see if there are any traffic calming measures to address this. We will invite them to a LAG meeting to discuss this issue with the members. We will update you when we have further information.
    UPDATE JUNE 2010
Several speeding operations have been carried out during May and will continue throughout June and plans for further operations are ongoing. So far, two offenders have been fined for speeding and others speeders have been deterred by the presence of the Police van and speed gun. We will continue to patrol the area at target times and discuss the issue at our next LAG meeting.
  • Nuisance motorcycles Show details
A number of motorcycles and quad bikes have been seen riding around King George V Playing Field and causing a nuisance to members of the public on the park. It would seem that the bike issue has shifted from the Prestwood/Cherrywood Drive area to King George V Park. The noise and the dangerous, inconsiderate and illegal manner in which the bikes are being ridden are causing a nuisance and annoyance to legitimate park users.

    Our Response
    CURRENT UPDATE AUGUST 2010
The team continue to patrol the park on a regular basis and gather intelligence on those persons believed to own or ride motorcycles and quad bikes on the park.

If you see anyone using such vehicles in the area, please contact us with a description of the bike and offender, and if possible an indication of where the bike was seen coming from or going to and registration number where applicable - although many of the bikes do not have registration plates. With your help we hope to catch the offenders and to deal with them as appropriate.

    UPDATE JULY 2010
The team have continued to patrol the area and have identified the keeper details of a cyclist on the park. The keeper address is due to be visited so details can be obtained for reporting or Section 59 warning. The team will continue to patrol the park and gather intelligence on any bike or person seen riding the bikes. If you see anyone riding a motorcycle on or about King George V Playing Field please call the ASB line.

    UPDATE JUNE 2010
Good news! With the help of reports from local residents, we have been able to seize one of the bikes. As the offender was seen using the bike on the road, he will also be reported for driving without insurance or a driving licence. A further rider has been taken to his home address, parents informed and words of warning issued in relation to being carried on a motorcycle.

    UPDATE JUNE 2010
Significant progress has been made in tackling the issue. With help from local residents, we have been able to identify and speak to several of the offenders. Patrols continue in the area at the appropriate times and we would ask residents to continue to contact us with information about incidents and the whereabouts of offenders.

Two of the offenders have received Section 59 Warnings in respect of their use of the bikes. Any further incidents will be dealt with strongly, utilising our powers to warn cycle users or seize their bikes as appropriate.
  • Anti-social behaviour on King George V Park Show details
At the most recent meeting it was agreed that tackling anti-social behaviour on King George V Park would be one of our new priorities. In recent months, the park has been refurbished with a new play area, wildflower areas and repainting/repairs of gates and fencing. The park is proving popular over the summer; however there have been a number of reported incidents of anti-social behaviour. In particular, there have been reports of children lighting fires, quad bikes and motorcycles being ridden (see separate priority, above) and fireworks being let off. Graffiti, other damage and litter is also appearing; and there have been some incidents of bullying amongst certain specific groups and individuals using the park.

    Our Response
    CURRENT UPDATE AUGUST 2010
The team continue to patrol the park on a regular basis at various times of the day. As well as walk-through, we have been spending time talking to park users of all ages and staying on the park for extended periods to deter anti-social behaviour. We have identified and engaged with a number of specific individuals and groups that have been responsible for the various aspects of anti-social behaviour. Where appropriate, parents have also been spoken to. Two Section 59 warnings have been issued in relation to use of motorcycles and quad bikes on the park (see separate priority issue above). We have liased with our partners, Nottingham City Council, with regards to the graffiti, damage and litter problems. There have been fewer calls about the park in recent weeks - however, our work in the area will continue.

Beat Update

CURRENT UPDATE AUGUST 2010

In general Beechdale has a lower rate of reported crime than many of its neighbouring communities. Over the period from April 2010 to date, compared with the same period last year, there has been a slight reduction in burglaries and attempts. This follows ongoing work across the wider area to reduce this type of crime, including extra patrols and targeting of regular offenders.

Also worthy note for the beat is a significant reduction in car crime. For the same period as above, car crime has dropped by 45%. In real terms this is a reduction from 11 to 6 reported offences. This is a welcome improvement.

However, figures for criminal damage have gone up compared to the same period last year. Drilling down into the detail reveals that the main reasons for the increase are the bin and play equipment fires reported on King George V Park and the setting alight of conifers in gardens, which happened over two separate nights in the spring. There was also a night in early August during which wing mirror damage was caused to several cars on Beechdale Road.

Any residents who have assisted the police in providing information relating to any matters are thanked. We rely greatly on members of the public to provide information and anyone who has information they may think is of benefit are asked to contact your local beat team. Confidentiality is assured.

Our current priority issues for the Beechdale area, as decided by local residents in consultation with the Police and councillors, are:
1) Anti-social use of motorcycles and quad bikes
2) Speeding
3) Anti-social behaviour on King George V Park.

Other issues that we are working on in the area include the following:

: BURGLARY ON TRENTHAM DRIVE

During the late evening of 27/08/2010 or very early hours of 28/08/2010, a house on Trentham Gardens was broken into. This is the first such incident in the area in some time and so we would like to reassure residents and provide some simple crime prevention advice to help reduce the chances of anyone else in the area becoming a victim. As usual, if you have any information about any suspicious activity in the area, please get in touch with either the Police or Crimestoppers.

Further patrols will be undertaken in the areas affected. Local residents have been spoken to and a leaflet drop has been undertaken in the area to alert neighbours. To help deter potential burglars, please ensure that you secure your properties properly, and don’t leave your windows open unnecessarily especially during warmer weather. Straightforward measures such as ensuring that your doors and windows are secured and that keys and valuables are kept out of sight make your property a less attractive target for criminals. If you would like a visit from the beat team to discuss your home security and to receive free Smartwater to mark valuable property with, please contact one of the team below.

: PARKING PROBLEMS ON KINGSBURY DRIVE

September will see the re-opening of local schools and will once again be working with St Teresa’s and Trinity Schools in particular to combat the ongoing traffic and parking problems on Kingsbury Drive at the start and end of the school day. We will continue to visit the road on a regular basis with a view to encouraging drivers to park and drive sensibly so that we can keep traffic moving and ensure the safety of pedestrians; particularly the school children. We would like to thank parents for their co-operation.

The leaflet design competition at St Teresa's Primary School which was ran jointly with the Fire Service last term yielded many excellent designs from pupils for a leaflet highlighting the issues to parents and drivers. The winning designs are being converted into a poster and leaflet to be distributed in the coming months. This followed a Fire Appliance driving down the street at school closing time, which highlighted an important safety issue as it had a few problems getting through.

We will also continue to liase with the Council to find a more permanent solution, and welcome ideas and contributions from local residents and parents attending the school. Further updates will be provided on the website as plans progress.
