Beat Update
CURRENT UPDATE - August 2010
With the summer holidays upon us it’s a time of mixed emotions for people. Some love it and go away to somewhere nice to unwind, whilst others sit at home and worry about what might happen. Please whatever you choose to do, take a minute to think about some of the simple steps listed below, that you can take to help prevent crimes from happening.
There has been a slight reduction in the number of burglaries in the area during the last month.
May I take this opportunity to remind you not to remain complacent and make sure that all doors and windows are kept locked and that any side gates are also locked and bolted. Please, make sure that any tools or garden equipment is securely locked away. Also ensure that any house or car keys are kept out of sight and not left on the stairs or left lying around on worktops. These seem to be the latest target for burglars.
If you have any overgrown hedges or trees it may also be worth trimming them down, as the over-growth may be used as a cover by any potential intruders. It may also be worth investing in some security lighting, a burglar alarm or a cctv camera.
Auto-crime has eased off in the area, whether it is stealing items from within a car, to stealing the car with keys or left unattended momentarily.
Again if I could remind you to ensure that any valuables are removed from the vehicle and that keys are kept out of sight.
You will also see in our priority section the nuisance with the motorbikes riding around the area. I would just like to take this opportunity to say that we are looking into this matter very seriously and again, we rely on information from the local community. Keep us aware of the problems, and if you know whom it is riding on these machines or where they are being stored let us know. It may be a friend; it may be a neighbour, it may even be your own son or daughter that won’t listen to you, either way they are making life for some, very unhappy. Please get in touch and let’s together rid these machines from the streets.
On a brighter note, if you know who is committing any offences in your area, please get in touch with any of us from your Local Neighbourhood Policing Team.
We can’t do this alone and desperately need the help from the local community to tackle this and bring individuals to justice or if you wish to remain anonymous please contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
Remember: By working together, we can make this a better place to live and work.
