Canning Circus
The Canning Circus Neighbourhood Policing Area covers an area stretching from Nottingham city centre to the University of Nottingham on the western edge of the City of Nottingham.
The area includes Lenton and Radford, home to many students who live off campus, as well as the University of Nottingham's University Park and Jubilee campuses and the Queen's Medical Centre, one of the country's biggest hospitals.
Neighbourhood Priorities
Through consultation with the members of the public in this neighbourhood we regularly set out a number of priorities to be tackled.
- Drug dealing and anti social behaviour Show details
Drug dealing and anti social behaviour has been identified as a particular problem within the Radford West beat. 2 specific areas of concern are : 1) Hartley Road between Norton Street and Alfreton Road, and 2) Clifford Street and Alfreton Road between Independent Street and Boden Street.
The anti social behaviour offences are generally occurring from midday to midnight Sunday to Thursday and from 6pm to 4am on Friday and Saturday.
Our Response
All victims of anti social behaviour will be visited by a Police Officer at the time of reporting if required as well as a follow up visit by the Neighbourhood Policing Team. A solution to the problem is devised in order to prevent any further offences occurring, this may involve partner agencies such as Nottingham City Council. Drug dealers and users will continue to be targetted through the gathering of intelligence supplied by members of the public. Overt and covert patrols will be conducted in order to disrupt the supply of drugs on the streets as well as the execution of warrants at addresses where drugs are believed to be kept.
31st January 2012
Increased patrols in this area have continued in recent weeks and a Police operation on 19th January has received positive feedback from local people. This involved the use of a specially trained drugs dog and officers both in plain clothes and in uniform, all working in the Alfreton Road area. Drugs were located and seized from three people. Officers continue to pass the message that drug use and supply and anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated and that those involved in such matters should expect action to be taken against them including arrest and action by the local council where appropriate. Two young teenagers have been arrested during January following incidents of antisocial behaviour in this area.
November 2011
The local beat team for Radford West and our partners at Canning Circus are continuing to work hard to target offenders and deal with any offences. The beat team are continually targeting the areas around Old Mill Close, Shooters Alley, and Clifford Alley. As a result, the beat team have disrupted some of the activities taking place. These locations are the areas that the public still tell us are of most concern to them. The beat team have identified a number of individuals and addresses which are of interest to us. Investigations are currently taking place into these matters.
The overgrown foliage that was obscuring the CCTV cameras has now been cut back. This has now enabled the cameras to operate to their full capacity and is another valuable method of tackling the drug related activity. Discussions are still underway to agree the best way to improve the street lighting along the alleyways to deter drug related activity.
The beat team gather intelligence on a continual basis, along with our partners, in order target the resources where they are needed the most. Disruption to the supply and use of illegal drugs is high on the list of priorities for Nottinghamshire Police throughout 2011. It remains a major priority within Nottinghamshire and will be tackled wherever it materialises.
If you wish to report any suspicious activity concerning this or any other matter then please call Crimestoppers directly on 0800 555 111.
