New Lenton

Back to Canning Circus

New Lenton area commences on Derby Road at the junction of Harlaxton Drive and continues south west along Derby Road until the railway line next to Lenton Recreation Ground. It then covers to the east of the railway line as far south as Nottingham Canal and then east along the canal under Castle Bridge Road onto Castle Boulevard. The area then continues north onto Harlaxton Drive and back onto Derby Road.

The area is densely populated and includes 5 high rise tower blocks managed by Nottm City Homes. These tower blocks accommodate 15% of the population of the area.

There is a large student population living in private rented accommodation and a Nottm Trent University hall of residence Simpsons Hall is situated on Park Street. Students account for 71% of the population of the area.

There are 3 Mosques a Sikh temple and 2 churches within the area along with a primary schools.

The area also has 3 public houses which are frequented mainly by students. There are a number of shops on Lenton and Castle Boulevards as well as a shopping precinct at Church Square.

A Community Centre The Lenton centre has leisure facilities and offices. It was bought by local residents from the Council.

      A chance for residents to meet their policing team and other agencies to discuss issues affecting them.

Beat Update

4th April 2012

Pc Rob Philips has joined the Canning Circus Team and is the new Beat Manager for New Lenton. He is an experienced officer who knows the area well.

Rob and colleagues have been working during the last month on tackling a number of issues including drug use and supply in the area. Several arrests have been made and visits to areas and premises which have been identified as problematic will continue in the weeks ahead.
