Bakersfield

Back to St Ann's and Sneinton

The Bakersfield Beat is a mainly residential area bordered by Carlton Road to the North and Daleside Road to the South. It includes the Upper part of Sneinton Dale above Dale Farm Avenue and the majority of Bakersfield terminating on Oakdale Road at its junction with Dovedale Road.

Within the area is a mixture of privately owned and social housing with the Jesse Boot Primary School near its centre. The area also includes the Colwick Woods Nature Reserve, which is a large area of grassland and woodland of which part is a Site of Special Scientific Interest.

The main issues in the area relate to anti social behaviour in the evening period and the use of off-road motorcycles in the Colwick Woods Nature Reserve

Under the Policing Pledge, this is an urban beat and has a 15 minute emergency response time. For an explanation of what this means click here.

Beat Update

Update 1st February 2012 - Reported crime remains low in the Bakersfield area. There has been only one burglary reported in the last month which occurred on Parkdale Rd and the offenders did not gain entry. Can I remind homeowners that the basics of home security such as locking doors and windows, even when you are in the house, dramatically reduce your chances of being a victim of burglary. In addition please take the opportunity to look at the security of your sheds and outhouses as the contents are also attractive to thieves. A heavy padlock or a contact type alarm would help greatly. Finally, can I ask that you take the opportunity to sign up the Neighbourhood Alert which will allow you to receive the latest information regarding crimes in the area and will also allow you to contact the Bakersfield Beat Team directly if you have any concerns.

Update 2nd January 2012 - Can I wish you a happy new year. The level of reported crime in Bakersfield during December was remarkably low. There has been only one dwelling burglary in the area which took place at the beginning of the month in the Holdale Road area. There was a cluster of attacks on industrial units in the Daleside Road area just before Christmas that we are currently monitoring. Autocrime has also dropped off in Bakersfield although Sneinton and Carlton as a whole has seen a number of registration plate thefts during the period, so I would ask you all to be vigilant in this respect. Reports of anti social behaviour are also historically low with no locations particularly being favoured. Throughout the coming year we will continue to work with our partner agencies and members of the neighbourhood watch to make our neighbourhood a safer place.

Update 1st December 2011- Hi all. The number of autocrime offences in the area has reduced during the last month. I believe that this reduction is linked to the arrest of 2 suspects by Carlton police in relation to similar offences in their area. Some of you may have heard that there has been an increase in Burglaries in the Greenwood Road and Hereford Road areas. Again 3 suspects have been arrested in relation to this and are currently remanded to prison pending a trial date. That said, with Christmas rapidly approaching, the urge of the criminal element to relieve us of our Christmas presents is difficult for them to resist. I ask you all to be remain vigilant and to report any suspicious persons in the area using the 999 system. Also I ask you not to leave items in view either in your house or car. Let me take this opportunity to wish all a Merry Christmas.
