Neighbourhood Priorities

Through consultation with the members of the public in this neighbourhood we regularly set out a number of priorities to be tackled.

  • Speeding vehicles Show details
(PSM) Priority Setting Meeting updates from the 4th January 2012.
Complaints from local residents and councillors have highlighted an issue with speeding vehicles and outside local schools, in particular Brookhill Leys School on Chewton Street. Springbank School is due to relocate to Church Street in 2012 and although nothing has yet been reported it is anticipated that similar issues will be highlighted due to the location and it’s close proximity to a doctor’s surgery and dentist.
Another issue that has prompted reports to the local beat team is inappropriate parking outside schools, again in particular Brookhill Leys School. Parents dropping off and collecting children are leaving vehicles obstructing junctions and blocking driveways of local residents. This causes reduced visibility for other motorists and increases the risk of a child or parent coming to harm.
The key times for these problems will be 0800 - 0900 hours and 1430 - 1530 hours Monday to Friday.

    Our Response
(PSM) Priority Setting Meeting updates from the 4th January 2012.
High Visibility patrols during the relevant times. Officers will challenge inappropriate driving and parking. Officers will be deployed at the relevant times with the speed camera and will prosecute drivers who drive in excess of the speed limit. The local beat team will work with the schools to firstly highlight the problem with the parents and possibly even educate some in relation to parking regulations, as it could be that some parents are ignorant to the fact that their parking is obstructive. This will be done through letters sent from school initially, with a 2nd letter sent a few weeks later to reiterate the message.
The local beat team will work with Broxtowe Borough Council and endeavour to have parking warden’s patrol during the relevant times to prosecute offending drivers
  • Paved area on Wellington Street Eastwood Show details
(PSM)Priority Setting Meeting update from the 4th January 2012.
This paved courtyard formally a children’s park has become a gathering place for teenagers. The anti-social behaviour namely noise, foul language, underage drinking and kicking a football at properties has become cause for complaint with local residents. These problems have been highlighted over the years as an Anti-Social Behaviour problem area by the local residents.

    Our Response
(PSM)Priority Setting Meeting update from the 4th January 2012.
The group identified as causing the problems have been targeted through partnership work between Broxtowe Borough Council and the Eastwood South Beat team and measures to control there behaviour have been put in place.
These nominals are being continuously monitored.
This has caused to ease the problems but the location needs to have a change of use if these problems are to be eliminated for good.
Resident surveys were posted out and only 3 responses were received back completed.
The final decision on what the area will be developed into is still under consideration. The location remains an area that is regularly patrolled.
Officers are to use their Section 27 powers of dispersal to combat antisocial behaviour/alcohol related nuisance. This bans youths from a specific area for up to 24 hours.
  • Environmental Issues Show details
(PSM)Priority Setting Meeting update from the 4th January 2012. This priority is to remain in place until the next meeting.
Coronation Park is the main square piece of parkland on Eastwood South and it is relatively small with a play ground for smaller children and a skate park facility for teenagers.
There are environmental issues in this area.
The parkland is currently slightly overgrown in places and has little lighting and no CCTV.
There are also reports of dog fouling on green areas and pathways. This can cause health problems to children or adults using the park area.
The park has four exits, one at each side - Nottingham Road, Chewton Street, Plumptre Way, Sherwood Rise.
The park slopes to the Plumptre way Island end and has a walkway network through out the park.
The adjoining roads are generally residential with the exception of Nottingham Road containing a number of small businesses and Chewton Street, which hosts a Secondary School and college along with Sure Start.
It has been reported from members of the public that groups of youths gathering on the park are drinking, smashing bottles on the pathways and causing a general nuisance through drink.
There are also reports of dog fouling on green areas and pathways. This can cause health problems to children or adults using the park area.

    Our Response
(PSM) Priority Setting Meeting update 4th January 2012.
During the summer months in 2011 the park saw a increase of teenagers on the park. Also more Dog walkers.
During October, November, December 2011 the number of teenagers gathering on the park has decreased.
This happens as the evening get colder.
The beat manager is to talk to the Broxtowe Borough Council to arrange for a clean up team to attend the park when ever possible.
This will clean up any dog fouling left and prevent health problems. The beat team will attend the park as part of their patrol plan to reduce youths drinking and discarding any un-wanted bottles etc.
Officers to use S27 powers with youths who are drinking and causing ASB - This bans youths from a specific area for up to 24 hours
Beat team to liaise with the service and youths to educate to problems being caused on the park. Youth Services will bring the Motivator Bus.
