Near to the A610, which borders Giltbrook, is Giltbrook Retail Park, which has a large selection of commercial outlets. Giltbrook borders Awsworth at Gin Close Way.
Cossall borders Trowell on Cossall Road, Awsworth at The junction of Newton’s Lane and Awsworth Lane Cossall, and with Ilkeston on Newton’s Lane and the A6096 traffic Island at the end of Coronation Road
Neighbourhood Priorities
Through consultation with the members of the public in this neighbourhood we regularly set out a number of priorities to be tackled.
- Anti social behaviour Show details
Although Anti Social Behaviour (ASB) has continued to fall on the cluster, the Northern Cluster Priority Setting Meeting (PSM) agreed to keep ASB as a priority. Problems are mostly occurring on Friday and Saturday evenings between 5pm and 11pm.
Groups of youths causing harassment alarm and distress at the following locations in Brinsley:
- Cordy Lane Brinsley near the Parish Hall.
- Alleyways at St James Church, Brynsmoor Road and Hobsic Close/Broad Oak Drive.
Groups of youths causing harassment alarm and distress at the following locations in Awsworth.
- Lawrence Avenue around the shops.
- Barlow Drive South Awsworth.
-Alley way behind Barlow Drive south which leads on to The Glebe.
They are being noisy and are responsible for criminal damage within the cluster.
Our Response
Every Friday and Saturday night we conduct high profile patrols using Beat Officers, PCSOs and Special Constables.
These officers will pay attention to the locations taking positive action against anyone who is disturbing the peace.
Any young person found under the influence of alcohol will be taken home and their parents spoken to.
Persistent troublemakers will be asked to enter into an anti social behaviour contract with us and also the Council's Antisocial Behaviour Officers will be informed as they are are main partners to improve the conduct of the person.
Weekdays will become part of the re-active shift patrol plan giving a high visibility presence.
We will closely monitor licensed premises with our partners within the Council Licensing Department and Trading Standards.
Any breaches of law will be dealt with. We will also conduct test purchases to ensure compliance.
We will also talk with Youth Services to ensure there are diversionary activities for young people taking place.
Officers will make use of their Section 27 powers to disperse any antisocial behaviour/alcohol related nuisance.
This bans youths from a specific area for up to 24 hours. - Speeding Motorists Show details
This priority has been identified after consultation with the local community; through Police Patchwalk meetings, beat surgeries, Neighbourhood Priority Surveys and all other engagement opportunities.
This has subsequently been agreed by the Northern Cluster Priority Setting Meeting (PSM) on 17/01/12 to continue with the priority.
Vehicles exceeding the speed limit in Brinsley and Giltbrook/Newthorpe.
Speeding is occurring on a regular basis through out the day at the following locations:
Brinsley - Church Lane, Cordy Lane and BroadLane.
Giltbrook - Smithurst Road and Church Lane Newthorpe.
Our Response
Your local beat team have carried out random speed checks in Brinsley and Giltbrook using hand held speed cameras resulting in a number of fines and warnings being issued.
Speed checks were carried out within the cluster by the mobile cameras of the Safety Camera Partnership during November and December 2011, as this area has been designated as a casualty reduction zone. This has resulted in a high number of Fixed Penalty Notices and endorsements being issued to speeding motorists.
Police will continue to deploy the hand held enforcement speed gun and also the non-enforceable speed gun, whenever possible, at the above hotspot speeding locations. The mobile speed cameras will also continue to be deployed in Brinsley on a regular basis.
A mobile interactive speed display sign has been installed on Cordy Lane Brinsley to slow vehicles down, and a zebra crossing has been installed on Church Lane Brinsley following good partnership work by Nottinghamshire County Council Highways department, Brinsley Parish Council and the local beat team. - Burglary Dwelling Show details
This priority has been identified after consultation with the local community; through Police Patchwalk meetings, beat surgeries, Neighbourhood Priority Surveys and all other engagement opportunities.
This has subsequently been agreed by the Northern Cluster Priority Setting Meeting (PSM) on 17/01/12 that tackling burglaries was to be a priority for the cluster.
Our Response
There is an active Neighbourhood Watch scheme which gives occupants in the area regular updates on currents issues and detailed crime prevention advice.
As there has been a increase in the amount of burglaries reported from this time last year within the cluster, we need members of the public to be more vigilant.
Increased patrols by the Beat Team are onging in the area and known suspects being closely monitored by the police.
Beat Surgeries take place on a regular basis, please attend to discuss any issues you may have and for crime prevention advice.
Beat officers should not be contacted for emergencies (when you should ring 999). To report a crime that has already happened or for any other non emergencies please contact us on 101.
