Eastwood North and Brinsley

Back to Northern - Eastwood North, Awsworth, Giltbrook & Brinsley

EASTWOOD NORTH

Eastwood North sits between Eastwood South, Langley Mill and Heanor. Many of the boundary lines of Eastwood North run through rural areas and are therefore not easy to define. However, main road boundaries of the area include the A610, the A608 Mansfield Road, the B600 Willey Lane, Moorgreen, Mill Road and Princes Street.

The B600 links Eastwood North to Watnall and Selston. Nottingham Road is the main artery road through Eastwood which comprises of mainly retail shops, offices, banks, building societies, supermarkets, public houses, Post Office, library, restaurants and takeaways.

BRINSLEY

Brinsley is a small village which borders Langley Mill, Eastwood North and Greasley (Beauvale). Again, most of Brinsley’s boundary lines run through rural areas and are difficult to define. However, its boundaries run from the A608 Mansfield Road near Cocker House Farm through open land past the Brinsley Headstocks Wildlife and Heritage Site, up to Cordy Lane near the Yew Tree Public House. It then turns northwest towards borders with Westwood and Jacksdale before returning south through open countryside past Brinsley Hall.

The B600 links Brinsley to Watnall and Selston and also provides good transport links to Junction 27 of the M1 motorway. Brinsley has one main road, the A608, which runs from the B600 through the centre of Brinsley and on towards Eastwood.

Under the Policing Pledge, this is an urban beat and has a 15 minute emergency response time. For an explanation of what this means click here.

Beat Update

Good news

Over the past month there have been a number of arrests in relation to offences of burglary within the Broxtowe North area. These arrests have been spread across many beats.

Your local beat team has taken positive action when dealing with recent incidents of anti social behaviour in Brinsley. A number of youths have been visited at their home addresses and given advice in the presence of their parents.

Restorative justice was used successfully in Brinsley following an incident where a laser pen was deliberately shone into the eyes of a victim. The victim and offender were brought together using restorative justice practices which resulted in the offender apologising after realising the harm he had caused. The offender will be monitored by your local beat team.

Crime Prevention Message

Over the holiday period, offences of burglary and theft from vehicles tend to increase due to valuables being left on display in either properties or vehicles.

To avoid becoming a victim, think about your home - if you know the security looks poor, so will a thief. The facts are:

Properties with little security are 15 times more likely to be burgled than those with good security.

One in three offences happen because doors or windows are left open.

It doesn’t take much to secure your house to put off thieves and we can help.

Please make sure you keep your property and vehicle secure. Here are a few tips on reducing your chances of becoming a victim of crime:

Make sure your home looks occupied, ideally ask a trusted neighbour or a friend to look after it (collecting mail, feeding pets, switching on lights and drawing curtains etc).

Don’t leave your curtains closed in the daytime, as this shows the house is empty.

Use automatic timer-switches to turn your lights on when it goes dark.
If you normally leave valuable pedal cycles or similar items in your shed, consider putting them inside the house.

Avoid discussing holiday plans where strangers may hear details of your absence from home.

Finally don’t forget to lock all external doors and windows. If you have a burglar alarm, make sure it is set.

Your local beat team officers for Eastwood North & Brinsley are willing and able to provide free advice on how to beat burglars. Funding is currently available for Broxtowe residents via the South Nottinghamshire Community Safety Partnership towards the cost of a home alarm system where you can receive 50 per cent off the cost of an alarm up to a maximum of £200.
To find out more contact Beat manager PC 2645 Richard Reynolds on 07525989426 or Police Community Support Officer PCSO 8883 Peter Keeley on 07525989427.

January 2012 Update

We are being told by the community of Brinsley and Eastwood North that the Anti Social Behaviour (ASB) in the area has decreased. Our figures confirm there is a reduction in the number of calls received to report ASB.
The Beat Team increased the patrols in the area, targeting local youths and challenging their behaviour.
As a result of the commitment of officers patrolling
This is particularly the case in areas such as:
- Cordy Lane Brinsley near the Parish Hall.
- Alleyways at St James Church, Brynsmoor Road and Hobsic Close/Broad Oak Drive, where these incidents were being reported.
Crime in the Brinsley has seen a slight increase, Eastwood North a good decrease

From April the 1st 2011 to September the 30th 2011 saw a 9% increase in Brinsley and a 35% decrease in reported crime on Eastwood North.
From October the 1st 2011 to January the 19th 2012 saw a 5% increase in Brinsley
and a 19% increase in reported crime on Eastwood North

Any information received by you, the local community, is a great help to us to keep these crime figures and incidents of Anti Social Behaviour down!

Some crime prevention advice just to remind you, please keep unattended windows closed where possible as open windows are a target for potential burglars. Also please do not leave items unattended in vehicles as again these might get stolen.
