Completed Beat Priorities
- Speeding vehicles Show details
Between July and September 2011 there were 303 neighbourhood priority surveys carried out on the Beeston Cluster residents, these have come back saying that speeding vehicles are the main concern to local residents, it was therefore agreed at the Police and Communities Together meeting held on the 6th September that this would become a priority for the Beeston Cluster and the Beeston Rylands beat. The area identified for this priority was shown to be Trent Road.
Our Response
The Special Police Constables along with the Neighbourhood Policing team will be carrying out speed checks using the hand held speed device in the areas stated. Any person found to be speeding will be issued with a fixed penalty notice and given a £60 fine and 3 points on their driving licence.
This priority will be reassessed in January 2012
Our Solution
Priorities being reviewed at Cluster/Neighbourhood level - Anti-Social Behaviour Show details
From the Neighbourhood Priority Surveys carried out from June - August 2011 it was found that ASB is still a concern to local residents. It was therefore agreed at the Police and Communities Together meeting held on the 6th September 2011 that this would remain a priority.
Our Response
September 2011 update
Operation Animism has successfully been running for the last few months on Broxtowe North and South, the neighbourhood policing teams have targeted hot spot areas taking names of all persons found in these areas and dealt with any issues of ASB strongly. We have found that within a few nights of this action the problems have seized. Victims of ASB have been regularly visited and updated with actions taken. Areas are agreed and discussed every week and are based on calls received by the public and intelligence submitted by the neighbourhood policing team.
This action has also resulted in several warrants being carried where cannabis was seized and persons arrested.
Regarding the criminal damage on Leyton Crescent Park - officers have carried out extra patrols in the area but offences are still occurring. Hopefully we will hear soon whether the CCTV can fixed.
Regarding ASB on County Close – we are pleased to inform you that the local resident who was responsible for a lot of anti social behaviour in the area has been evicted.
June update
Two new initiatives were set up last month to help reduce the amount of ASB occurring in Broxtowe South.
Op Animism – this operation is carried out every Friday and Saturday afternoon and evening by officers from the Neighbourhood Policing team. The team are tasked to patrol all the ASB hotspots in the area, these areas are identified from calls made by the public and current intelligence – taking into account social events, school holidays, protest etc.
The other system that we have in place now is an ASB task force. This comprises of four PCSO’s who are sent to the highest risk hot spots for the County to tackle and stamp out ASB and the deal effectively with the persons causing the problems.
Due to the warmer weather this spring, there has been an increased amount of ASB incidents, these were mostly down at the Beeston Weir, this was caused by the Clifton and Beeston youth rivals who were threatening to cross the weir to fight each other. An Operation was set up for extra patrols to be carried out and several persons were arrested for their behaviour. There have been no further problems since the arrests were made.
March 2011 update
High visibility patrols of both local beat officers and response officers in problem areas. A reassurance priority plan has been completed for each area within Beeston which response officers are tasked to patrol when time permits. Working in partnership with the Council, we may issue warning letters to parents where younger members of the community are identified as repeat offenders of anti social behaviour. ASB Officer Sharon Matthews works closely with Beeston local beat team ensuring the correct individuals are being monitored on a regular basis. This may ultimately lead to the application of an ASBO (Anti Social Behaviour Order). These have been proven to work as a deterrent to further similar behaviour.
We continue to operate Operation Broadside, which is our operation to tackle anti social behaviour. Details of persons dealt with are logged. Letters are sent to parents and also the details are shared with Broxtowe Borough Council should further interventions be required (AIMS). Shops in the local area will be visited to remind them of their obligations regarding the sale of alcohol to minors and will be subject of Test Purchasing operations together with Trading Standards.
This priority will be reassessed in January 2010

The PACT meeting was for the Cluster of Beeston Beats and agreed to keep this a priority for action in the Beeston Rylands area. Not only is this a beat priority it is also a force priority at this time.
Our Response
June update
Unfortunately there has been a sharp rise in burglaries in last 12 weeks but we are pleased to say that 3 males have been arrested who were responsible for many of these as they were all located in the same few streets. Since these arrests there have been no further burglaries.
March 2011 update
The rise in burglaries was met with the creation of an operation to target and reduce the crime. Operation Arrow has now been running for some time and has seen many arrests and convictions for burglary.
The Local Beat Team are also currently carrying out Operation 'Darker nights' which target hardens vulnerable locations/persons. Leaflet drops in areas of reported burglaries are to be leafleted with burglary prevention advice and provided with information regarding smart water including its uses and where to purchase. High visible patrols are to be conducted by the Broxtowe South Officers at identified times to build intelligence and promote public reassurance. High visible Police signs are to be deployed in various locations promoting public reassurance. These signs will be placed in the identified areas and moved on a fortnightly basis to increase awareness of Police activity. Neighbourhood Alert system to be utilised, sending alerts to local members of the community who are registered with the system.
This priority will be reassessed in September 2011
Our Solution
From the Neighbourhood Priority Surveys carried out from June - August 2011 burglary is no longer the main concern for local residents so therefore it is not one of the top three priorities at this time, however burglary is a force priority and something that we are constantly trying to reduce. - Dog fowling Show details
Neighbourhood priority surveys carried out between July and September have shown that dog fowling is a concern to local residents. It was therefore agreed at the Police and Communities together meeting held on the 6th September that this would become a priority for the Beeston Cluster and the beats within it. There were no specific areas identified as it seems to be a general neighbourhood problem.
Our Response
The neighbourhood policing team will be working closely with the Broxtowe borough neighbourhood wardens – any person found to be persistently letting their dog fowl in the area will be issued with a fixed penalty notice. Please inform us if you know of anyone who is allowing their dog to do this as action will be taken.
This priority will be reassessed in January 2012

Priorities being reviewed at Cluster/Neighbourhood level. - Speeding Vehicles Show details
The PACT (Police and Communities Together) meeting found the results of surveys distributed that the speed of vehicles is a concern locally. It was agreed this would continue as a priority for action in the areas of Meadow Road / Station Road.
Our Response
Officers, using speed detection devices, will attend the areas to monitor vehicles at appropriate times and, where appropriate, issue fixed penalty tickets or offer advice to drivers as appropriate.
Consideration will be given to setting up a Local Community Speedwatch in the affected areas. The Local Community will be consulted about this.
Our Solution
From the NPS results September to December 2010 'Speeding' is no longer one of the top 3 priorities. However we do take Speeding very seriously and our Special Constables are out every week with the speed gun in the hot spot areas. Anyone found to be exceeding the speed limit will be issued with a fixed penalty notice, a £60 fine and 3 points on their licence. - Parking Show details
Members of the community have informed the Local Beat Team that there are problems with vehicles being parked inconsiderately in the areas of Victory Road, Birch Avenue and Trafalgar Road, and additionally around the local schools. Vehicles are causing an obstruction to residents with other issues generally occurring around school drop-off and pick-up times. The parking compromises access to driveways and vehicles are very often left unattended for significant periods that affects the security of the vehicle and of the area in which it is parked.
Our Response
The Local Beat Team will conduct high profile patrols in this area. Offending vehicle owners will be traced and advice given, if applicable fixed penalty notices will be issued. In more serious cases vehicles will be removed to prevent further obstruction.
The Local Beat Team will consult with the residents for their suggestions as to how to resolve this issue on a more permanent basis. We will work with Partner Agencies to develop any practical suggestions.
Our Solution
From the NPS results September to December 2010 'parking' is no longer one of the top 3 priorities. However if a driver has parked in an illegal or inconsiderate manner ourselves or Broxtowe Borough Council will take action to address the situation. - Dog fowling Show details
