Completed Neighbourhood Priorities

  • Speeding traffic   Show details
Survey results show that the speed of vehicles on side roads is a concern locally. Wollaton Road, Humber Road, Meadow Road and Queens Road were identified as the problem areas.

    Our Response
To conduct and enforce speed checks on specific streets at various times of the day. Enforcement of offences will be as per current guidelines and will include warnings and penalty notices.

    February 2010 update:

Special Constables have been carrying out speed checks at peak times in areas identified as having problems with speeding vehicles. More frequent speed checks will be carried out when daylight hours are longer. Ten vehicles have been stopped so far this month on roads identified as problematic.

    Our Solution
From the recent Neighbourhood priority surveys carried out September to December 2010, speeding no longer seems to be an issue within the Beeston Cluster. However we do take speeding very seriously and although it may not be a Cluster priority, it will always be an issue that we will deal with if it is believed to be happening in your area. Our Special constables are out weekly with the Speed gun in hot spot areas and fixed penalty notices will be given to persons exceeding the speed limit.
  • Burglary dwelling   Show details
Neighbourhood Priority Surveys collated during this quarter (March - June 2011) have outlined that the fear of Burglary dwelling continues to be an issue in the Beeston Cluster. On the 6th June 2011 during the PACT (Police and Communities Together) meeting, members agreed that Burglary would remain a priority for the next 12 weeks. There were no locations stated on the surveys but that it was more the fear of being burgled. It is a priority that is a concern for the whole of Broxtowe South and not just the cluster.

    Our Response
    June update
We are pleased to inform you that 3 males have been arrested by Beeston officers, they were responsible for several burglaries on the Beeston Rylands and Central beats.

Operation Summer Nights will be starting on Beeston North from the 1st July - The aim is to not only reduce the number of burglaries that have happened in the Beeston North area this year but also to improve confidence in the local community and make members of the public feel safer in their homes. The local beat officers will be conducting high visibility foot patrols in the target area at identified times to gather and build intelligence and promote public reassurance.

    March update
The Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) will conduct High Profile Patrols in the areas where burglaries have been committed.
If a Burglary is reported, the NPT will leaflet drop the whole street to ensure that every resident is aware and can take the appropriate crime prevention methods.
Those houses which have had a burglary will be target hardened to ensure that there is less likelihood of another offence occurring.
The NPT will also take every opportunity to ensure that residents are aware of Crime Prevention. This will involve various tactics and could involve the NPT testing residents to ensure doors and windows are locked.

This priority will be reassessed in September 2011

    Our Solution
From the June to August neighbourhood priority surveys, burglary dwelling has not been hi lightned as a main priority at this time therefore it is being closed however burglary is a force priority and we are constantly trying to reduce.
  • Dog fowling   Show details
Neighbourhood priority surveys carried out between July and September have shown that dog fowling is a concern to local residents. It was therefore agreed at the Police and Communities together meeting held on the 6th September that this would become a priority for the Beeston Cluster and the beats within it. There were no specific areas identified as it seems to be a general neighbourhood problem.

    Our Response
The neighbourhood policing team will be working closely with the Broxtowe borough neighbourhood wardens – any person found to be persistently letting their dog fowl in the area will be issued with a fixed penalty notice. Please inform us if you know of anyone who is allowing their dog to do this as action will be taken.

This priority will be reassessed in January 2012

    Our Solution
This priority has now been closed as there were no neighbourhood priority surveys this quarter saying that dog fowling is a problem at this time.
  • Cycle thefts   Show details
Neighbourhood Priority Surveys carried out between October and December 2011 have shown that ‘thefts of bicycles’ are a problem on the Beeston Cluster. Bikes are being stolen from all over the cluster and not one particular area.

Half a million bikes are stolen in the UK each year
A bike is stolen in the UK every 71 seconds
60% of those stolen are taken from the home address or the area very close to it – usually from sheds

    Our Response
The Neighbourhood Policing team at Beeston are currently running an operation with a view to reducing the number of cycle thefts on our area. More details will follow as the results emerge.

You can help reduce cycle thefts by:
Always keep your bike locked out of sight even if it’s in your garden, preferably in a shed or garage
Always lock the door to the building where your bike is stored
Make sure you lock up the bike in the shed/garage to some sort of anchor point
While out and about, ideally use TWO secure-rated locks for maximum security. Preferably a combination of types such as a heavy duty chain and a good quality hardened steel D-lock.
Make the lock and bike difficult to manoeuvre when parked – chain the bike close to its anchor point
Keep the gap between the bike and lock small to prevent the access of tools
Avoid isolated places – leave your bike where a potential thief can be seen
Remove all your bike accessories every time you leave it unattended

This priority will be reassessed after the next ‘priority setting meeting’ which is held on the 18th April 2012.

    Our Solution
According to neighbourhood priority surveys carried out between January – April 2012 – Cycle thefts are not a main concern at this time. However we are currently following leads into persons who we believe are possibly the main culprits for the Beeston cycle thefts.
