Toton and Chilwell Meadows
Toton and Chilwell Meadows is an expanding area located near to Beeston and Stapleford.
Toton and Chilwell Meadows is an expanding area located near to Beeston and Stapleford.
The majority of streets within Toton are accessed via the B6003 Stapleford Lane/High Road. The most recent developments within Toton are located on land formerly owned by the Ministry of Defence. These developments are known as Chilwell Meadows. The Chilwell Meadows estate is accessed via Swiney Way and Ransom Road and these roads can be reached via the B6003 Stapleford Lane and A6005 Nottingham Road.
The area has a combination of both natural and road boundaries. The western border follows the line of the River Erewash as it runs along Toton Sidings and the northern border follows the A52 until it reaches the footbridge at Baulk Lane. The majority of the eastern border is farmland running parallel to Stapleford Lane. This then joins the southern border, Nottingham Road, leading back to the river.
Within the area there is a large supermarket located on Swiney Way and a small retail park located off Ransom Road. Throughout the area there are a number of retail outlets including off licences, newsagents, general stores, Post Office and two public houses.
There are also a number of open spaces, both wooded and grassed, within the area. The main locations are Manor Park and the area around Toton Sidings. There are smaller parks offering play facilities, on Banks Road, Swiney Way and Mountbatten Way.
The area has three churches: Toton Methodist Church, St Peter’s Anglican Church and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. The area also has three primary schools: Banks Road Infant School: Chetwynd Road Primary and Bispham Drive Primary. All three schools feed into the local George Spencer School, Stapleford.
Under the Policing Pledge, this is an urban beat and has a 15 minute emergency response time. For an explanation of what this means click here.

Beat Update
MAY 2012 CRIME UPDATE
During April 2012 a total of 7 crimes were reported to the Police for the Toton and Chilwelll Meadows beat.
The crimes that were reported during April 2012 are as follows:
Theft from motor vehicle -2
Theft of motor vehicle - 1
Criminal damage – 2
Fraud and forgery - 2
PRIORITIES
• Burglary
• Vehicle Nuisance
• Antisocial Behaviour
Our three priorities have been re-agreed following our Neighbourhood Priority Survey results. Your Local Beat Team will continue to tackle these issues and welcome any information regarding these matters.
DWELLING BURGLARY
When a burglary is reported to the Police the Local Beat Team will deliver a crime prevention leaflet to every house on the street where the burglary has occurred. This is to ensure that every resident is informed of this burglary should someone have witnessed anything suspicious and also to ensure that residents take all available steps to secure their property in order that any future offences can be prevented.
If you have any information as to who is committing burglaries or about any other crime then call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
Please continue to lock your doors and windows when you are not at home and ensure that your house alarm is set. If you do not have a house alarm please consider installing one as this is a useful visual deterrent.
Also ensure that keys to your vehicles are placed in a secure location within your house. Do not leave them on a key hook by the front door or on a table in the hallway. Ideally, place them somewhere that is not obvious. The same is true for your house keys. Please place these in a location that is not obvious but where all members of the household know where to find them in case of an emergency.
THEFT FROM MOTOR VEHICLE
The Local Beat Team will also deliver crime prevention leaflets to every house should an autocrime offence occur on the street. This is to also ensure that residents are aware and can take appropriate steps to ensure their vehicle is not broken into.
Please remember to remove all items of value from your vehicle. Remove the Satellite Navigation System and the holder and get into the habit of wiping the windscreen where the holder has been. Removing items from your vehicle reduces the temptation for someone to break into your vehicle. Even items like re-usable shopping bags should be removed. Any item that is left in the vehicle can tempt an offender to break in to see what is inside.
Please also ensure that your vehicle is locked whilst parked outside your house. Recently there have been a number of vehicles broken into where an unknown device was used to unlock the doors or the vehicle was simply left unlocked.
NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH
The Local Beat Team is actively seeking volunteers to set up a Neighbourhood Watch Scheme on their street. The intention is to have a scheme running on every street in the Neighbourhood. Neighbourhood Watch is a vital link between the Community and the Local Beat Team and we are committed in trying to expand this.
The Local Beat Team regularly delivers leaflets throughout the Neighbourhood and whilst doing this we will check to see if your street is in Neighbourhood Watch. Should you not be in a Neighbourhood Watch area this leaflet will also contain a section requesting volunteers to form a Neighbourhood Watch Scheme. In some instances you can get a discount from your Home Insurance Company through being in a Neighbourhood Watch Scheme.
The Local Beat Team has recently updated the list of Neighbourhood Watch Schemes and the following are the streets where there is a scheme in operation:
Banks Road (require additional co-ordinator)
Chester Green
Darley Avenue
Edale Rise
Erewash Grove
Farndon Drive
Hickton Drive
Kirkland Drive
Minton Close
Mountbatten Way (require two additional co-ordinators)
Sandown Road
Seaburn Road
Spinney Crescent (require additional co-ordinator)
Woodstock Road
Some streets require additional co-ordinators due to the number of houses that are on the street. If you live on one of these streets and you can spare a small amount of time please contact your Local Beat Team.
If you are interested in Neighbourhood Watch and would like to set up a scheme then please contact a member of the Local Beat Team.
NEIGHBOURHOOD ALERT
Neighbourhood Watch has now come into the 21st century by allowing community members to contribute without having to attend meetings or patrol streets. It’s simple to use, highly secure and free and can provide warnings about local criminal activity and prevention advice by email, text or phone. It also allows members to supply information to the police about suspicious activity in total confidence and discuss local issues online.
If you would like any other information regarding the Neighbourhood Alert scheme then please visit the Following website: www.broxtowecommunity.co.uk
SPEED CHECKS
The Local Beat Team will be conducting speed enforcement checks on Banks Road and Swiney Way. These checks will be conducted at various times of the day.
Please remember that the Speed Limit is 30mph and any vehicle exceeding the speed limit will be stopped and the driver issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice if appropriate.
Please note that these checks will be conducted without prior notification.
ANTISOCIAL BEHAVIOUR
The Local Beat Team are conducting patrols around the area in order to ensure that Anti Social Behaviour is kept to a minimum. The focus of these patrols will be the area around Mountbatten Way Park and Manor Park. If any resident is experiencing Anti Social Behaviour then please contact the Local Beat Team.
PARKING OUTSIDE TOTON SCHOOLS
The Local Beat Team would like to remind all users of Banks Road, Bispham Drive and Chetwynd Road schools to park sensibly and not cause an obstruction.
Parking outside of schools is an issue not just for residents but also can cause a danger to children who walk to and from school. The Local Beat Team take this matter very seriously and are trying to ensure that no child is injured as a result of inappropriate parking.
Please remember the following if you have to park at or near the school:
Do not park opposite another vehicle as this causes the road to be obstructed
Do not park blocking residents driveways.
Do not park within 10 metres of a junction.
Do not park on the Zig-Zags outside of school. These markings are there to assist in ensuring that children who attend school are visible.
Finally, if there is no alternative place for you to park other than on the road where the school is, please ensure that you park sensibly. Do not park in a position where it causes a risk to your child or indeed somebody else’s child.
The Local Beat Team will conduct patrols and will move vehicles should they be causing an obstruction or a potential danger to children.
NEWSLETTERS
The Local Beat Team produces a newsletter every three months and copies are available at Toton Library, Stapleford Lane, Toton. An electronic version is available and can be emailed to any resident. Should you require an electronic version of the newsletter please send an email to the Local Beat Team.
NEIGHBOURHOOD PRIORITY SURVEYS (NPS)
The NPS surveys are now available online and can be accessed at
www.neighbourhoodprioritysurvey.co.uk
Please complete the NPS on a regular basis. The purpose of the surveys are to tell us of any concerns / problems you have in the area where you live, work or visit. They also enable you to make suggestions of ways in which we could tackle the issues effectively. The results of the surveys are analysed every three months, and from these we set priorities. YOUR priorities are OUR priorities. We focus our time in these areas to make improvements on what concerns you. We then repeat the process every three months therefore keeping up to date with your issues.
If you require any of the surveys either for yourself, or to distribute to your friends, neighbours, or social activity groups please make contact with us either by email, phone or text, or visit Stapleford Police Station and we will be happy to provide you with as many as you require.
Finally, the Local Beat Team would like to remind all residents to report any problems or incidents to the Police in order that we can be aware and tackle the problem. The non emergency number is 101.
From the 7th November 2011 the Nottinghamshire Police non-emergency number will change to 101.
