Beat Update

The neighbourhood priorities were agreed on the 29th of June 2010 as burglary, speeding traffic and anti social behaviour. The local beat team will continue to take action on these priorities.

Updates for June 2010.

Stapleford North has had 2 burglaries in this month at Grenville Drive and also a walk in burglary at Northwood Street.

The main times that burglaries have been happening are between 1100hrs and 2200hrs and the odd one over night.
The local beat team have been out to these areas and have been advising local residents via letter drops and patrols of burglary prevention advice. Operation ARROW is currently underway throughout Nottinghamshire this is an increased patrol of police officers and student officers who are target hardening areas, which have had burglaries in them. To find out more about OP ARROW please contact a member of the local beat team or the police website. Local PCSO’s have been out and about conducting a week of night shifts during May focusing on the hot spot areas to identify potential offenders, which would seem to have had some effect, more of these operations may well continue at other times.
The divisional support unit have been working in the area targeting burglary suspects.
We are working with our partners, Broxtowe Borough Council and the Fire Service who assists us greatly and also gives us additional eyes and ears whilst they are on patrol. The beat team will keep you all updated with any actions that have been taken.

Stapleford North has also had 2 auto crime offences where vehicles have been broken into on the following streets:
Pasture Road and Northwood Street.
Again removing items from view in the vehicles by locking them in the boot or by taking them out of the vehicle completely could have prevented some of these incidents. Please lock your vehicles.
We have increased patrols in the areas to try to prevent the above.

Anti Social Behaviour in the area is low but there have been incidents on Braddon Avenue and around the Montrose Court area where young persons have been playing football between the courts and being loud. Local beat team are out and about stopping and talking with young people to prevent and understand about any issues.

In relation to speeding the local beat team and the police specials have been out carrying out speed checks on the following roads:
Ilkeston Road, Pasture Road, Hickings Lane and Nottingham Road.
There have been 24 vehicles stopped and the drivers spoken with and warned about travelling at excess speed also fixed penalty tickets have been issued to drivers for this offence The local beat team will be out and about continuing these speed checks. With continued support from local councillors and members of the public there have been 2 new interactive speed signs in the Stapleford area. These are located on Pasture Road and Hickings Lane, which we hope, will raise awareness to all drivers.

The local beat team are continuing patrols throughout the Stapleford North area, ensuring public safety and promoting reassurance in the community.
Should you wish to enquire about the crime level in your area please use the crime mapping pages, which can be found on the Nottinghamshire Police website.

If you would like any crime prevention advice, then please contact your local beat team so we can organise a visit from one of our Crime Reduction Managers.

Some final points to help prevent crime in your local neighbourhood:

Burglary - please ensure that doors and windows are closed and locked when nobody is at home (particularly at night and when absent). Keep garden tools such as spades locked up at night as they can be used to force entry into homes. If you have car keys, then take them to bed with you. Please do not leave them unattended and on view.

Can we advise that all out buildings including sheds and garages are being appropriately secured using good quality locks and alarms. Please ensure that security lighting, if available, is working correctly and that all side gates to properties are secured.

Speeding - please help us to help you, by keeping to designated speed limits on all public highways in Stapleford. Speeding is currently a priority in the Stapleford North area; therefore, regular speed checks will be conducted. Persons caught speeding will be issued with a £60 fine and three points on their driving licence. Persons caught speeding excessively over the designated limit, will be dealt with according to current legislation. Lets make Stapleford a safer place and reduce our speed.

Anti-social behaviour- parents must take responsibility for the behaviour of their children by making themselves aware of where their children are at night. Parents and children need to be educated with regard to the negative impact large groups of young people have on the community in which they live. Parents should be satisfied that their children are not inappropriately congregating in large groups especially where there is underage drinking taking place.

The Police continue tactics such as Operation Broadside (for anti social behaviour), Operation Boost (for burglary) and Operation Strike (for auto crime). Can we ask that residents be aware of any persons that they think maybe suspicious in the area and please ring the police at the time of any incident, giving descriptions such as male or female, clothing, hair colour, height etc. Please remember that you can report anything to the police without having to give your details by phoning Crime stoppers, on 0800 555 111.

The local beat team would like to remind all residents to report any problems or incidents to the Police, in order for us to be aware and deal with the issue promptly.

Please contact us on 999 if a crime is taking place. Otherwise, please use our non-emergency number 0300 300 99 99.
